I would try adding 30ml of vinegar to the naptha 3x in a separatory funnel. Evap the vinegar, freebase with heat.(An open stove @ 150F with a fan blowing in, for example. After the acetic acid smell disappears you have freebase)

You will likely have some tasty medicine.

Does pulling yellowed naphtha with vinegar migrate the (polar?) oil/fat/wax to the acetic acid layer!?! And how does evaporating at high temps freebase the resulting goo? This is new and interesting to me. Any chem details or links to discussions of this interesting tek addendum would be much appreciated.

so you had clean, safe, clear naptha, and post extraction it is yellow? I don't see how this is really a problem. It should still work fine for quite a few pulls.

I have re-used yellow naptha on 2 STB teks without fail. granted it gets yellower and yellower, but it always freeze precips. I will eventually just evap the last bit of it to get whatever is left behind, but I really don't think yellow naptha would cause any problems.

There are 3 ways I can think of you could try to clean your naphtha: Doing acidic washes, doing basic washes, and passing through some activated carbon. Appart from that, the only way is distilling, and then you need a distilling apparatus.

would just filtering it through activacted charcoal really clean it all up? seems so easy...

Yup, it does...not sure specifically about filtering, but you can add AC, shake and decant for clear results. It's a real PITA if you have powdered AC, but I think chunks might work ok. I used AC on my first extract or two, before realizing that re-xing was ultimately easier/less time (or material) intensive and AC was unnecessary.

What are you saying to reX with? The used yellow solvent? Wouldnt one want the cleanest solvent possible when re-xing?

Heptane, brand Bestine, is common in the states - Michael's Art Supply for example. It is sold in small and large volumes. Works great.

I just got yellow for the 1st time today... it's the 5th time this particular naphtha has been reused so i guess it's something that happens with age, or perhaps extensive breakdown of the plant material if you let the STB mixture sit for a while, which I also did... it seems to work just fine, but needs a few decants cuz it pulls some crap using a baster.

I plan on using it to clean my bike chain after this cuz it's not like new stuff is hard get.

No, I'm saying I used AC to clean up stuff instead of re-x'ing...a different application than being discussed here. However, it should clean the naphtha up decently well if not perfectly.

Removing oils is what the defat is for. You use naphtha when your solution is still acidic. That way, it pulls fat, but not dmt. Also, I am disturbed that you would throw away the holy one just because it has some oil. COME ON! Anyway, you can re-acidify it, and then pull out the oils with naphtha, then base again and pull with naphtha.

I'm sitting next to a mason jar full of sunshine yellow naptha, about to put it in the freezer. It hasn't been clear for three pulls, and the last was the best yet.

Oh, and evap your naptha, folks!. I 'vap of all the naptha after each extraction and it usually nets me 3-4 doses. Even if you do your freeze precip. thoroughly, there's still quite a bit in there afterward. Might not want to smoke that old chain lube though...
