Not purely sativa, but Jack Herer is very nice.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Has anyone here ever had real Matanuska Thunder Fuck? Not the medical mmj ccop indoor grow variety, but the authentic Alaska grown product? This legendary sativa dominant strain grown in the fertile Matanuska valley of Alaska benefits from incredibly clean pure water from ice runoff, fertile volcanic soil and a really weird elongated growing season. It is not uncommon for this strain to grow for up to 7-9 months. The high is legendary as well, clean, crisp, cerebral and extremely long lasting. SWIM was lucky enough to get a full oz his last year of HS and it lasted him more than a year - a little goes a long way. Apparently the town changed a lot and now almost none or very little is grown and almost none of it is exported. Too bad, amazing stuff!

Another legendary strain that seems to no longer be around is the original chocolate thai stick, actually on a stick. SWIM got some of this in Berkeley in the 80's and it looked like tobacco chew, a full 1/4 oz was smaller than a golf ball it was so densely packed. This is not only one hitter quitter it is also laced with the poppy. SWIM found himself in Flintstone land for hours, literally reality was replaced with hastily drawn Hanna Barberra cartoon representations of individuals. SWIM's friends all had the same experience, everyone was experiencing cartoonland together. Pretty amazing stuff. Apparently the demand was too much for this stuff and the growers ended up destroying their own operation due to greed and bad growing practices. Their success put them out of business.

Panama red, Thai-sticks, Acapulco gold; strains i've longed for

so to all the old school hippies out here, the absolute bane of my pyschoactive endevours. What were they like? were they really worth the hype? how would you guys compare them to the smoke of today? aside from the head high/ body stone of sativa/indica.

Well my friend, I've given this considerable thought for the last couple of months. I inherited a photographic memory from my maternal grandfather and I've been diligently accessing memories from the good ole days. It's taken me some considerable effort to examine my personal history with ganja, as it began way back in 1973.

When I reviewed a good deal of my earliest experiences, I methodically recalled just which varieties I had first smoked. My first time, I was treated to Colombian red. Despite the reverse tolerance involved in many Sacred Herbs, my best friend was determined to get me stoned. Long story short, it took 3 fatty joints, 3 fully packed bowls in his 22" blue fiberglass bong, and three or four hits of Lebanese blond hash...

And then my whole world suddenly, completely and irreversibly changed. (First times the charm!) Wink

When I really think back, I guess I've smoked a handful of the classic old pure Sativa strains. Colombian gold/red/brown, Thai sticks and the Mexican 'dirt weed' that had to do until something kinder circled by. My friend's older brother came back from Vietnam with Meshma Khan and I got a couple jays passed my way. Lebanese and Moroccan hash were a staple product of the middle 1970's. Most of the 'commercial' smoke was from Mexico and it was Cannabis Sativa. The science of horticulture seems to have been undiscovered territory for most of the people sending it Northern bound? Knowledge changes everything exponentially.

I guess I got passed a couple bags that were called Acapulco gold and Panama red. Who knows if this was advertising hype or what? I've had my suspicions for quite some time now but who knows? When I went off to art school, I was introduced to Kona gold. As I recall it, the source or strain of the herb was far less important than the quality of the growth cycle it had gone through (and the care and expertise which cultivates it's many charms). You know, some buds just look particularly special.

I had a friend of a friend, who had a friend who brought some Temple Balls back from Asia. These were round balls of black hashish with opium, I believe these were only in circulation for a couple years or less in the West? We smoked it before seeing a Yes concert in 1977. I was quite overwhelming and way trippy. I can't remember if this hash was Sativa or Indica... Shocked

Right around this time, winter of 1978, I got my first taste of SINSEMILLA. Wow, herb without seeds! This was some of the early Afghan pure Indica strains. This was the first time I had experienced an alternate variety of marijuana. Man, I was in love! Sorry to shatter any of the myths but when I tasted Indica for the first time... I was tripping. Since those early days, I have come to accept the cross-strains and hybrids and enjoy the balance they gift us with. Let's face it, variety is the spice of life.

I guess my stance on this whole Sativa VS Indica thing is this, THC is essentially what gets us high. This molecule, tetrahydrocannabinol, is the same magic in both strains. Granted, the differences are pretty specific, yet they are hardly as divergent as those between: psilocybin and mescaline, LSD and DMT or Salvia Divinorum and DMT. If you've ever ingested pure THC, you know what I mean. It's the juice that activates both branches of the same magical species.

If we break it down, we might see the Sativas as gifting the body high, head rushes, the prolonged build-up in one's heightening of awareness. We used to qualify this state of herbal intoxication as, stoned. In counterpoint, Indica seems to be an instantaneous high, it blows your face off, seconds after you exhale the delicious flavour. Spicy stuff! Although, the buzz does not last quite as long as the good old 'creeper weed'.

Still the THC molecule is what changes our perception and heightens our awareness, thus lifting the veil of illusion from before our eyes. I think you've been given a lot of good advice about pertinent strains available today. I know it seems romantic to mystify the types of herbs circulating in the late 1960's and early-to-mid 1970's. The counter-culture was strong and the music and artwork was truly revolutionary. Time is an utter mirage, so outside of a romantic context... the differences between the strains and the varieties are far less extreme as some would like to think.

That being said, you need to find out for yourself, how much this experience can teach you. Ultimately, like all Sacred Medicines, it teaches you about yourself and this immeasurably vast universe you live within.

So many great strains out there. What an amazing and magical plant. Thank you cannabis for what you have given me over the years. I am a better person because of your medicine.

One word...
Chocolope
Pleased
Few more ...
The old skool thai is once again cool! I wasn't around for the original thai sticks, but quite frankly... I don't care !!! haha dont think you can better tha chocolope for high and flava... Soooooooaaaring thc. You first loose your head smoking this but after 3 or 4 months U get a tolerance eventually cuz does have unbalanced thc/cbd profile, but the thc is hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhigh. So high I cannot tell you LOL. Best grown down under the ozone hole for extra extra high!
No seriously.
This is a strain from shiva himself..smoke it. I been smoking sativas my whole life, landraces from weak to piss yerself strong. But this one.. This ones' from GOD him/her/itself. The flava! oh my..so different, no christmas tree, u have to train it its like a messmass of vines which all cola. And you can pick it at 8 week, ready, 9 week better.. But it goes from haze to thai when U just leave it..Leave some of it for 14 weeks, the taste and high changes completely but it keeps budding. Pick and leave a tuft to reveg, and pick it later and do it again.. The choco thai comes out, just never stopping budding. My mate just about to pick his 3rd crops off small bushes outdoors, just as good as the first. He's been picked at beginning summer, middle and now end..rambling.. but chocolope is the deal, get it if you can..

delta-9 Labs has Mekong Haze. Supposedly a pure Cambodian landrace strain, flowering time is 15-18 weeks. http://www.delta9labs.co...trains&g=mekong-haze

Flying Dutchmen has Original Haze. Supposedly stabilized and perfected in the 1970's, flowering time: 90 - 115 days (13-17 weeks). "The only original pure Haze available." http://flyingdutchmen.co...ginal-haze/p1600018.html

Greenhouse Seed Co. have a lot of nice genetics, but their Neville's Haze is argued to be the best sativa smoke around. The site's description is "Almost pure Haze." 14 weeks flowering, 22.6% THC, 700g/m2. http://greenhouseseeds.n...lles-haze-feminised.html

One of my all time faves has to be the Willie Nelson from Reeferman. It won best sativa in the cup of 2005, and is quite deserving. I have a six year old nug from the original clone that was gifted to me yesterday from an old friend. I will be smoking tomorrow, and I will probably be much to faded to even add 2+2. It will be spectacular, and I can't wait.

For things that are available it seems like the Chocolope is probably real nice. I would like to get some seeds or a nice cut of this strain.

For those in the area it seems that there is a new dispensary in Long Beach opening in August that will be offering in top notch genetics from reliable sources available both in seed and clones. Hopefully they will have some good sativas to offer. Avalon Wellness Center. I am stoked for them!!

I tried some of the Sativas on my travels, like Colombian red, and Thai grass. Very nice happy stuff, and much clearer and more creative ,and useful, than the stoned indica which wasn't so much my cup of tea.

I find the real stuff (Purple Haze) in some of the better and more reputable Cali Medicinal Dispensaries. There is so much mislabeled stuff and made up names (insert favorite stupid celebrity name on label) in most of these places, but there are a few that really know the science and the medicine and the genetics of their strains. True Purple Haze is certainly around in Cali, I'm sure there are families in the emerald triangle who have been growing it for decades, gently listening to it and allowing it to tell them just what it needs to grow nice and strong and pump out its sacred medicine. Cali has surpassed Amsterdam in many ways with the quality of certain strains grown and developed and crossbred here, and for hashes and concentrated oils and waxes, hands down Cali wins. Some of the most exceptional strains in the world are available there.

Wishing that all nexians will easily find the medicines that work best for them with the least amount of effort.

Peace my brothers and sisters. Smile

unansweredquestions since you are in the UK what about taking the train or making a road trip voyage to Amsterdam? You are closer than you might think. There are some lovely sativa's that have been developed by the seed companies in Amsterdam like chocolope, and kali mist, and there should be lots of haze options as well. SWIM grew Kali Mist a few years ago in a large greenhouse and 2 plants took over the whole space, had to bend them over and enlarge the greenhouse - raise the roof. The finished product was amazing, sweet and extremely creative smoke, like drinking a few cups of really powerful coffee. Day time use only unless you wanted to say up all night. You can probably being back or mail yourself back some seeds. Good luck and I hope you find exactly what you are looking for.

+1 for Kali Mist, I had access to this not so long ago. LOVELY stuff, very buzzy, could function well even though baked off my face... Alas, I no longer have access Sad
