I've done a A/B extraction and done another acid wash. I've now basified and doing the final pulls with naptha. I'm using a separatory funnel and in there seems to be a layer of sediment sitting between the water and naptha. I'm not sure what it is. Could it be DMT or undissolved lye?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Emulsion? Can you take a pic? How thick is it?

I probably should have taken a pic before I removed it from the naptha. It was as if the DMT had either settled on the bottom of the naptha or the lye had floated to the top of the water. Just small flakes.

I put the gunk in a flask, added some naptha and heated it while swirling. After a bit of swirling most of it was re-absorbed into the water or naptha. I separated it again and just kept the naptha and now drying it out.

How can I tell what the gunk stuff is?

It could have been a mix of different things. How much mimosa was it and to how much did you reduce the final liquid to? I ask because it is possible if one reduces too much, that when adding the base, some dmt precipitates (as some people said, I never had it happen with me though). It seems when that happens, sometimes even when adding the solvent to the mimosa liquid and mixing well, part of that dmt refuses to dissolve. Separating that gunk and adding naphtha to dissolve sounds like a good plan.. I would do a sodium carb wash on that naphtha before freezing/evapping.

The gunk can also be a mixture of other kind of plant impurities, as well as emulsions. In any case continue doing your extraction as normal, and if that happens do the separation+redisolving+washing, and you should be fine Smile

It was the remainder from a previous extraction. I didn't get much from the first extraction so I thought I'd try again. I kept it just in case I was doing something wrong. There was about 1.5L of basified liquid. Does dmt precipitate after being left for a couple of weeks?

With a sodium carbonate wash do I just mix the sodium carbonate with water, mix with the naptha and separate again? What if it is dmt and it keeps wanting to sink? Is there another wash I can do to purify the DMT even more? I don't care about plant impurities, more so about bringing any lye across.

Hey Smile

Yeah its possible after some time some dmt crystals precipitate. It never happened to me but I heard of it happening to others. 1.5l basified liquid for how much mimosa?

As for sodium carb mix, yeah you got it.. FAQ also explains it: https://wiki.dmt-nexus.m...hould_I_wash_my_spice.3F

If its dmt, when you manually separate the gunk and use warm naphtha, it should dissolve it and lye shouldnt. In any case after you do that, doing that sodium carbonate wash will make sure 100% there is no lye. You can do two washes if you want.

You can always recrystallize again if you want (also as FAQ explains) if you are not happy with your crystals, but it should be already fine this way

Good luck and tell us how it went Smile
