I was just recently diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and was wondering if ayahuasca has any usage aiding in thyroid function. I read an article about this guy who had used it to maintain his thyroid function and I was wondering if that is complete bullshit or not. I really do not want to take pharmaceuticals my whole life and was wondering if anyone has experience with ayahuasca and the thyroid.

do you get enough iodine? I dunno about hypothyroidism..but I know there is a connection between the thyroid, certain thyroid issues and a lack of iodine. Eating seaweed daily is a good source of iodine.

My hypothyroidism is caused by radiation therapy that I had on my neck area about 7 years ago. My other question would be if Ayahuasca can be used while on Synthroid (the medicine they recommend). If I end up taking the pharmaceuticals I still want to try ayahuasca sometime in my life (for a number of reasons not just the thyroid thing). Any info would help thanks everyone.

I dunno about that medicine, but I wouldnt rely on ayahuasca to controll the thyroid. If I was in that position personally, i would get on a serious juice fast for a prolonged period of time. Alot of people have overcome all kinds of things like cancers etc by just living on fresh fruit and vegetable juices for a while. Ayahuasca could help I think but really I think a more holistic approach would be combining diet with ayahuasca and whatever other routes you choose to take. You are what you eat and IMO what you eat will define how well you're body can rebound, in any situation.

There's no reason to believe that anything would be different for someone taking synthroid vs someone with a normally functioning thyroid gland. Synthroid is simply a synthetic molecule that does that job of the hormone that the thyroid normally produces. As far as I know, they are identical molecules.

It is likely Ayahuasca may give you a deeper understanding of how problems manifest in your body, and offer a very intuitive + microcosmic perspective of what you could do to help yourself... and may serve as an amazing adjunct and guide in adjusting your lifestyle to something that helps center your being in a state of harmoniousness. There is no hazard with taking exogenous thyroid hormones and ayahuasca.Hypothyroidism resulting from radiotherapy will invariably require thyroid hormone replacement therapy to avoid the symptoms of hypothyroidism which can range from a bit constipation at one end of the spectrum, to a picture resembling a dementia at the other.

My advice to the OP is to take to take the Synthroid.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Smile hi, did a quick search & haven't found any reports of Synthroid>MAOI contraindications.
..may block effectiveness of beta-blockers, a herbal example being Eucommia (used in Chinese medicine to treat aches, back pain)
http://www.drugs.com/drug-inter...oid-1615-0-1463-869.html
but there's nothing i've seen yet to suggest it is a particularly dangerous drug in combination with other things...

Update: found a suggestion that Synthroid may increase MAOI activity ( is also prescribed as anti-depressant), meaning the effects
of ayahuasaca may be increased (though probably not greatly on prescribed dosages)...

Hello everyone!

I know I am resurrecting a dead thread, however I feel that clearing up some misinformation may be helpful. I currently take adaptogenic herbs and a mimosa hostilis based tonic on a daily basis. I have found that the mimosa hostilis potentiates the effects of thyroid stimulating medicine. By themselves the thyroid stimulating adaptogens and the mimosa tonic have no strong thyroid related effects. When taken in combination, my body temperature rises, my resting heart rate increases, I sweat profusely, I am sensitive to heat, I sometimes get gastric distress, and I am prone to insomnia and reduced sleep. All these are textbook symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

My hypothesis is that the DMT changes how our body responds to the stimulus, in a manner similar to the placebo effect but not controllable. Normally, the sympathetic nervous system has a variety of neurological control mechanisms built in to maintain homeostasis. I believe under the influence of DMT, these homeostatic mechanisms are partially disabled, resulting in effects not normally observed. Thus, I believe DMT can act as a potentiating agent for a fairly wide class of biologically active compounds.

I need to do a LOT of research on this subject to be able to say anything with confidence, but there is definitely SOMETHING going on, and it operates via a complex mechanism, as the behavior is varied difficult to predict.
