In order to make life a bit easier, would anyone see problems with putting the rootbark in a clean (cotton, no detergent) pillowcase, then adding that to the pot of acidified water?

If the acidic water doesnt react with the cotton, swim thinks this would make doing a couple of boils much easier as all one would have to do would be to lift the pillowcase out of the water, ring it out a bit- and dump the acidified extract into a separate container.

Imagine it would be better than decanting and most certainly make filtering much much easier.

If cotton pillowcase isnt a good idea for this, does anyone have any other ideas for such a venture? (nonreactive, porous material)

well, doing a few diff google searches shows that cotton can react with acetic acid. Which is a bummer-

On the other hand, swim wonders how much of a factor this really would be if one where going to clean up via the FASA route. Cotton fibers are basically cellulose, right?

Swim is no chemist, but this article doesnt make things look good.
Something about crosslinking certain types of amino acids...

Perhaps there is something out there that is made of the same materials those thimbles are for soxhlet extractions that would withstand a wringing?

Organic cotton pillow cases are available if you happen to live near an eco-friendly retailer. They are on the net for good prices too.

You should go stb and 4get about the acid a/b step.in that case just pour your mhrb lye water together, the mhrb will sink to the bottom, and your naptha will float to the top.when your ph is high enough your brown reddish mhrb will turn blackish.i say skip the ab with acid and go stb.good luck.oh and no pillow case, but do what you want really, wrd.peace!

Ive been using the sleeve from a dress shirt tied off on both ends inside a soxhlet cycling with iso alcohol with no problems. Not sure how the acid would change that though.
