How do the companies that sell various dyes powder their substances? Would putting substances through a blender for a long period of time result in the fine-as-possible powders that the dye vendors sell?

Live plants. Sustainable, ethically sourced, native American owned.

I've kinda wondered this as well after burning out two blenders (both were actually pretty good blenders).

Anyone? Very happy

I think they use a professional type of machine for that. Not a blender type.

Yes shredded mimosa was very hard to work with, some of the "shreds" were huge bark pieces.

I'm betting it's something like this; our Plant, Soil and Insect Science department had several.

Yikes. That is some cash.

But, hey -- you can save $500 off the list price! Oh, man. I think I'll keep buying powdered for a while...

a coffee grinder has worked.

I did spend the day(a few times actaully) with a large bowl, 100g of rootbark chips and a pair of scissors and it got the job done..though I also had blisters all over my hands..a small price to pay though for what came next..
Long live the unwoke.

You could have worn rubber gloves when you were manually cutting up the bark.

I would have thought that the shredded is easy enough to work with, not requiring modification or grinding, except for perhaps the odd chunk. Does this ring true or false?Confused

half true Very happy

It works to some extent but yield of shredded bark can be smaller if you dont try to break it further. I suggest trying to blend the shredded bark before extracting.. And if you do an a/b, do long boils, maybe 5 of them, and after 4th, you could pour out water, put the mimosa in blender and try to break it a bit for the last boil. Or if you do an A/B maybe leave soaking for long in high pH solution. Good luck Smile

One thing i did was first to break the bark into as small parts as i could with my hands,

then when in the lye solution or pot boiling (when doing mimosahuasca) i use a hand blender untilli feel the solution is smooth.

This way i got comparable yields to powdered.

Probably with GIANT MACHINES... Shocked

Hmm, I think I missed that episode... How's It Made?: Magic Purple Plant Powder. Razz

For very small amounts, though, I can twist/tear the bark into pieces with my hands, though, and a coffee grinder will do it. Great for all your Ayahuasca brewing needs. Slightly more tedious for extracting 200g, but very doable in under 30 minutes.
Some things will come easy, some will be a test

I think the mimosa is powdered by those "machine elves" that Terence Mckenna likes to call them.Wink
