Hi all, Since a long time I've been dubbing about the nursery and how to make it more welcoming and friendly. A few people already made some suggestions and today I had another chat with ouro and I thought it was a good time to try something new. So I made a few changes to the nursery: 1. Name change! The name has been changed from THE NEXUS NURSERY to WELCOME AREA. I think this sounds a lot better and of course more welcoming. 2. The subforum "First Questions for Information" has been changed to "Open Discussion". This makes it clear that the welcome area is a place for all people, full and new members, to have an open discussion, ask questions and to share some ideas. This way we not only make it a better place for the new members but we also give the full members a new spot where they hopefully feel at home. 3. Location. I located the WELCOME AREA just below THE DMT-NEXUS SITE. This way new members will hopefully feel that they are taken seriously while enduring the necessary evil of a new member. And, it will make it more easy for full members to check the welcome area and see if they can hand out some help. I hope this will catch more good people to join the DMT-Nexus. Kind regards, The Traveler

Nice change! You forgot to change the name in the 'active discussions' part at the bottom of the front page though.

Great changes. Hopefully this will eliminate the inferiority new members seem to feel when first coming to the site. Welcoming seems much friendlier and inviting than inferring new members are children. "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." -A.Huxley

Are new members still confined to posting in the same areas even though the names and "locations" have been changed? "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind" - Albert Einstein

The main reasons we still have the nursery: * A very effective troll filter. With only a few subfora to check, trolls are identified and weeded out quickly; * Preventing new members to give 'solid' advice on health and safety. * Preventing suppliers to advertise their own goods; I'm currently working on a tool so full members can help the moderators to promote new members. This will hopefully make sure that promotions will go faster. Kind regards, The Traveler

Very positive name change and really nice symbollically to bring it closer to the top of the page! BTW, maybe it's just me, but the past weeks, if i don't log in, i simply can't see the Welcome area, only the title, as if i had pressed the "minus" button. Can't see the Welcome area active discussion either? When i log in, it all appears. it's about making life a neverending experience of wonderfulness!

Hey Trav,
FYI. When you are in the forum and you click on "Welcome to the DMT-Nexus" to view the top level list of all sub-forums and then you scroll to the bottom where it shows the 2 columns of active discussions. The one on the right still says " Active Discussions - NURSERY". Minor thing, but figured you might want to update it to account for the name change.
