Can a voting system be created to deal with things like this ?

Enhance? By who's standards? Group consensus? Fuck democracy, let the philosopher king rule!

I'll second that.
Ice House is an alter ego. The threads, postings, replys, statements, stories, and private messages made by Ice House are 100% unadulterated Bull Shit. Every aspect of the Username Ice House is pure fiction. Any likeness to SWIM or any real person is purely coincidental. The creator of Ice House does not condone or participate in any illicit activity what so ever. The makebelieve character known as Ice House is owned and operated by SWIM and should not be used without SWIM's expressed written consent.

I would probably agree with you If members for this site weren't all screened to make sure they are genuine.

Democracy? As in, the dictatorship of the 50% + 1 ? No thanks.

Popularity is very often NOT a sign of quality.

What would it enhance? Do you feel like members have little voice in the nexus goings? Or do you want to give more visibility to good threads? What is your aim? Maybe if you express your request better people can agree, different solutions found, etc.. But a simple voting system, I cant see that being of benefit here imo

Nice to see such a thread, thank you for that RayOfLight.

I always try to listen to the members of the DMT-Nexus and I'm always open for suggestions and ideas. If I see a strong urge for something to be created I put time and effort in it and most of the times it is more as worth it.

As for this idea, can anyone tell me how this works out on other fora? I can see some advantages to it, the crowd can make up it's mind and let itself known. On the other hand this means that the crowd schedules my time and energy and I can also see the rise of popularity contests.

How exactly do you see a voting system work on the DMT-Nexus RayOfLight? What can be voted for and what will be done with the votes?

One thing that might be good to vote for is for new members to be promoted or not, that would greatly reduce the work of he moderators.

Kind regards,

The Traveler

What I'm getting at here is if we have 60% of members interested in topics like 2012 and 40% thinking its all bullshit and should never be talked about maybe we should go with the flow...

PLEASE! NO JOKES!

There is NO PLACE for democracy here. As long as there is openness to consideration of new ideas, and enough people to offer thoughtful analysis for group discussion, then "voting processes" are not necessary, and only make for a MOB mentality.

I prefer to be a guest of The Traveler--the kindest, warmest, most welcoming (and regardful Smile ) host on the internet.

I am here because of the strict parameters that have been laid down by the Web Sites owner. I dont want a bunch of arguing over content.

I am not looking for a social networking site or a web site filled with a bunch of editorial content that stirs up emotions. I can get that at any number of other sites on the web.

I am here because of the like minded people that post information concerning DMT and other psychedelics. I'm here for the maturity and conviction of the people who post here. I find the information to be accurate, well thought out, and trustworthy.

I think changing the standards that have been set by The Traveler will change the responsibility/maturity level of average user. I dont want that to happen.

I recognize that my first ammendment rights dont apply to the nexus and I give them up of my own free will every time I come here, gladly.

I was just thinking this myself. A vote on new members would be the only benefit I see of some sort of voting system for the reasons mentioned (e.g., less work for mods, new members get promoted faster, promotion of intro essays).

It's up at the top of the page. I think Traveler assumed new costs and donations are always good for something you like and use. Very happy

Ice house I Feel the same way , This site is what it is because of the guidelines and the very respectful members. I just think that those members that have shown a sincere interest In DMT and proven themselves mature should also have a say, I guess thats the idea behind the moderators.... maybe a moderator voting system something like a senate. And maybe those who become moderators should be voted on.... I'm just throwing around ideas here with nothing but the best intentions for this community we all love.

To chirp in on this one, the most popular thing on the internet is probably Lady Gaga (?), according to your way of thinking this means that we should dedicate this forum from now on to Lady Gaga. Laughing

There are several reasons why I make choices like the no CT one. I see the DMT-Nexus as a place were we can talk about DMT, and anything that disturbs that will be cast aside, including CT threads that kept getting derailed one after another.

Also, sometimes the best choice is not what the majority wants, this since the majority has a tendency to not look at the longer term. Something that might sound cool and beneficial can turn nasty in the long term, think about trading for example and the exchange of real life addresses.

So here I am, always looking in the future, always on the watch for threads and always open for suggestions and ideas. That being said, it must be workable in the end, and without sacrificing the main goal of this site: DMT.

Kind regards,

The Traveler

I support your endeavors as long as they don't compromise the integrity of the site.

Good luck.

As a matter of fact, I've been meaning to ask if we could change the focus of the site to all things Lady Gaga - although I might consider a Ricky Martin subforum if the rest of the community votes in accordance.

I love the Traveler and usually I agree with him on things. All Im saying is that although he may have really solid points of view there are other ways of seeing things.

yes the public loves lady gaga... But imagine if there was a council of music made up of master musicians that voted on how good lady gaga was.....
