I've been attempting to find information regarding the mixture of different types of medication that will interact with DMT.
I was told that you could easily overdose on your regular medication after ingesting DMT, is this true?

Or was it MAOI that would interact with the medication?

Please be precise in your questions so folks can help.
Read the Health and Safety pages (link upper right), and the FAQ. Use the search function and read widely! The Nexus is wealthy with priceless information and discussion.

MAOI (harmalas, syrian rue, ayahuasca, some meds, etc.) combined with SSRI/SSNRI medication is potentially lethal and will probably induce seratonin syndrome.
This is not a complete treatment of potential dangers - please take time to do your research and ask specific questions as they come up.
Best,
L

The answer wasn't in the Health and Safety link you suggested I check out.
I was told the combination of DMT and amphetamines would be potentially dangerous, I then realized that they were referring to the method of ingesting DMT with MAOI.

I basically answered my own question, thanks though.

Using DMT with amphetamines is not advised.

I also fail to see how an amphetamine is a medicine.

Different drugs being involved can definitely mess with a DMT experience, and usually not in a positive way. A lot of tryptamine-based pharmaceuticals have warnings saying not to mix them with other seratonin agonists, there's probably good reason for that.

Amphetamines did have a legitimate role as a medication for use in those who have narcolepsy but nowadays amphetamine has been superceded by other (related) compounds for this condition.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

I'm an insomniac, due to lack of sleep even while on sleep aiding medication I must suffice with the best artificial alternative.

Is there any other type of drug that isn't advised to be mixed with DMT?

So you use an amphetamine because you can't sleep? Isn't that counter productive?

DMT puts you to sleep faster than any amphetamine ever will.

I take a pill to go to sleep and then a pill to wake up.
It works out just fine.
But, I guess I'll need to stop medication for a while before trying DMT.

We have seen some strange interactions with spice and pharmaceuticals on this forum. Usually we get cases where the drug the user is taking causes the spice to have significantly diminished effects. Another example; DMT already accelerates the heart beat from the sheer intensity of the experience. Amphetamines also can significantly raise the heart rate. I could see them being a problem when used together, since the spice is such a meditative drug. I could see it causing mania and simulated feelings of a heart attack (weirder things happen with just the spice alone...)

It definitely helps to have a clear head when using the spice.

Some friendly advice from someone who's been in your boat - wean off the medication as soon as you can. It's extremely difficult to break this pattern. The longer you wait to find the worse it will become...

Maybe the motivation of a DMT trip will inspire you to take a break and rest naturally? Valerian root is great for transitioning off sleep aids fyi. And as House said:

I misread your post, sorry.

I'll consider trying Valerian root, thanks.
What is it like, in your opinion?

I had thought we went over that the combination would be dangerous?

Wait, what? The combination is extremely dangerous and I in no way said you should combine the two.

From Health & Safety at the top (and should generally be applied to DMT as well as MAOIs):

DO NOT use MAOIs (so for example an ayahuasca brew) together with stimulants (like mdma/amphetamines) or SSRI medication (like prozac), this can cause serotonin syndrome and lead to convulsions or even death!

I realized there was something wrong with the post shortly after reading it, I thought you were implying the motivation from the DMT trip would help me get off medication, not the motivation of being able to use DMT.
