Wow, I like the flexible stem on that one!

Is that a torch lighter (blue flame) or conventional lighter (yellow flame)?

Says it can be used for detail soldering so wouldnt that be a blue flame?

The Arc Turboflame works great when it's more than 50% full, but when it gets lower than that it seems to be a little picky. Maybe mine's a dud, but I would absolutely not say that it ignites every single time it's striked. This is even after warming up the metal with in my hands for a few minutes before trying to use the device.

It helps to turn the ignition up a bit more. If it's too low, it's a royal pain in the ass to get it lit.

Glad to know it's not a defect - thanks!

I am having problems with the method to heat mine with a torch. Do I need to aim the torch into the hole directly at the ceramic disc?

Yeah, you want to use a torch that has some precision and aim directly at the ceramic element but away from the glass.

I usually make slow little circles on the element until it turns red. Once it's glowing, start slowly pulling back away from the element. I kinda "dip" the lighter a few times to keep it going if that makes any sense.

Hope this helps!

I am guessing this is done while the top plug is in the VG?

Yes sir..

Some people take the top off and hit it to finish off any remains that might be left in there but you run the risk of burning the spice. With the top on, it's pretty much impossible to burn anything.

I must have a bad torch. It doesn't get the ceramic filter red hot and it keeps dying while I try to heat up the filter.

Yeah, that's why a lot of people invest in the TurboFlame Arc.

It's got a really precise flame and it's pretty reliable once you get the ignition set right. (It has to be a little higher than I like for it to be reliable, but it still works great)

The one that smokerx posted looks like it would work pretty good too.

I love the TurboFlame though and highly recommend it.

I couldn't find a distributor stateside, so I had to order it from the link I posted.

I received my TurboFlame Arc last week (ordered from the link in my post above), and was VERY disappointed - it only lit one time out of five ignitions straight out of the box... I filled it up just to be sure ( it was under half full upon receipt) and -

NOW IT WON'T LIGHT AT ALL!!

I wrote the company yesterday morning and have not received a response 30 hours later. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
JBArk

Have you emptied out the gas reservoir completely before refilling it with at least triple refined fuel?

If not, try that and try turning up the ignition a bit more.

Blasting the tip with some canned air might help too.

I hope you can get it working jbark. I know I had a lot of problems with mine until I took the step I listed.

I also had problems with my Arc lighter: its maximum flame setting was very low - so low that it was barely useable. So I took it apart and forcibly turned the fuel adjustment screw past its maximum point, heard a snap, and now it works great.

@ jbark – sometimes when a lighter is over-filled, it will fail to ignite. Maybe if you let some of the gas run out and then try lighting you’ll have success?

Tried that.Smile Then kept trying to ignite it until there was very little fuel left, then refilled again, waited an hour and tried lighting it vertically, horizontally and upside down with the flame setting wide open - nothing...Crying or very sad

It sparks every time, and hisses as the fuel escapes, so it is a real mystery. In an ordinary world, a directed fuel spray and a spark = FLAME. Clearly, in my world, a directed fool spray and a jbark = SHAME. Shocked

I will wait until they return my email. Failing that, I'll try your lil fiddle - by then I'll have nothing to lose - a pile of mutilated pretty metal is as useful as an intact hunk of pretty metal that won't light.Cool

You should try to empty it out all the way. I use one of those dental hook teeth cleaner things to push the refill valve in until no more fumes come out. Then refill it and turn the ignition up.
