yea i didnt get a great yield of grass..but i think with more light and a better fertilizer regimen it could grow really well...i find they dont get too much bigger after a certain point so its best to harvest after about 2-3 weeks...and grow LOTS

I don't remember exactly where I read it, but back when I was first learning about DMT and plant sources I stumbled upon P. Brachystachys and was thinking about growing it.

The paper/study that I read said that most of the alkaloid content is produced shortly after germination (within the first few days; maybe in the first weeks, but I think it was more in the day range).

I will continue searching for source of this info, but I remember it coming to the conclusion that this grass only produces alkaloids very early on in its life cycle, then it stops production or slows it down.

**Update:

I found one study about Phalaris Aquatica that says pretty much the same thing, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih....d/16666301?dopt=Abstract .

There is another one out there specifically about Brachystachys though, so I will continue my search.

So far my searches have only turned up that one paper. So as far as any other actual evidence to back up what I want to say goes, I have none.

But I "think" that they would all be similar in this respect. I see the plant using these high concentrations of alkaloids to protect itself while young and vulnerable.

Maybe a couple side by side experiment are in order? *Various phalaris species, *Harvesting at different dates post germination; What would show the truth is the actual % of alkaloid ratio to total weight of harvest (I wonder if more than 3% can be attained if harvested at the perfect time?)

if that was the case that would be awesome to be able to get maybe 5%...on thing you would also want to do..is grow some for seed as well...and get good at making seed..because without seed...wa doh!

Well as far as grasses go, I thought you just let 'em do their thing and they will seed themselves.

My imaginary process so far, goes something like this; 1) sow a bunch of seeds, 2) a week or so after germination harvest the 'lawn', 3) let the grass regrow and flower, 4) collect the seed, 5) completely harvest the grass (roots as well), 6) repeat steps 1-5.

The only problems are, getting the seeds to germinate at the same time, and recovering the seeds from the flowers. Not to mention the possibility of cross pollination from other grasses.

yea trying to collect the seeds is super tough...i was thinking that what you would want to do is harvest after a few weeks...then just let it grow out some more..harvest again(because it will all be new growth) then the flowers and seeds come...and you should probably just let them fall to the ground...so that they will spread themselves over the years...yes they will cross pollinate..but there isnt a whole lot you can do to stop that..unless you put them in a sterile air filtered box
