I concur with the conclusions made on the first page. Without knowing the full effects, it may be better safe then sorry. At the same time, without knowing the effects DMT would have on a fetus, it may be beneficial.

Edit: and the second and third page now that i've read them.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Really? You'd recommend cigarettes over spice?

No, but even I gotta chime in here....cigs=ok spice = batshit crazy?

While I have 0 hard data on EITHER (and this really isn't a debate over which is better) I'm of the school that one should strive to do what's best for their unborn child/fetus/zygote/wiggly thing.

A spike in hormones, bp, stress etc PROBABLY ain't the best for a %(see above).
Neither is a cig (there IS some data on this at least, but I'm not looking it up for this thread, it's a given I would hope).

when I see a mom to be in her 8th month puffing on a cig I'm pretty disgusted. If I saw one smoking spice I'd be pretty pissed to.

Let's not subject our youth to chems they haven't ask for (don't read too far into that).
The Spice extends life
The Spice expands consciousness
The Spice is vital for space travel

I know it's not but this comment makes it sound like it's safer to smoke cigarettes than spice. I agree that we shouldn't be too reckless with the unknown, but I'd have to bet on an endogenous neurotransmitter with an extremely short half-life being far less dangerous to a pregnancy than poisonous cigarette smoke. I'm just sayin'..

I could not say this any better. There is no doubt that if you smoke DMT while pregnant that the fetus nervous system will also be effected. That's just wrong.

Tell your friend NOT to do this. In fact I'd go so far as to say that if your friend doesn't see this as a no-brainer then she should consider giving the baby up for adoption. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but the thought of a pregnant woman exposing a fetus to a drug like DMT is disturbing enough to me that I have to question whether that person can put aside their petty self interests in the world and actually raise a child.

Ok, but really..how many people go eat processed foods, mcdonalds, puss and blood filled dairy products and other toxic foods while pregnant? Surely those things will all effect the development of the nervous system of the fetus as well..So unless all pregnant people are willign to undertake rigerous dietary practices that promote exreme levels of internal hygene I think alot of people are unfit to have children going by the standars set forth in your post.

And again..there is no evidence of any damage so far to infants born in the diame to mothers who drink ayahuasca..so your first statement is more a personal bias than anything related to scientific fact, is it not?

I am sure oral DMT would be more suitable though, like the diame using ayahuasca..with smoking there is such a rapid change in blood pressure and acceleration of the heartbeat that it might cause some stress..

Until we have any evidence to suggest otherwise, I think that people that outright assume this is dangerous are doing the same thing as people who post pseudoscience claims here..without a source to backup a claim it is really just personal speculation or bias.

Comparing processed foods and their effects is not the same thing as comparing a CNS drug like DMT. We know DMT crosses the blood brain barrier, can there be any doubt about whether or not DMT makes it to the fetus? Perhaps I'm just closed minded on this, but I think the burden of proof lies on the person wanting to do it. They need to PROVE that it is safe for the fetus because all common sense points to "this is a cray idea". That's all I'm saying. BTW Just because it's safe doesn't mean it's not a tramatic experience for the fetus. We all most all agree that it's wrong to give an unsuspecting person spice right? How exactly is a fetus not unsuspecting?

If your religion, faith, devotion, or self proclaimed spirituality is not directly leading to an increase in kindness, empathy, compassion and tolerance for others then you have been misled.

I would be less concerned with the DMT making it past the placenta, than the spikes of different hormones Strassman detected in his studies.

plus, what is "only mild effects to newborns" ? And who has the right to say that the 'mild effects' are worth it, considering its not one's life but of a new person being born who's whole life can be conditioned by what the pregnant mother does ?

Would your conscience really be so at ease risking it if it was your own child? As others said, nobody truely knows what can happen, and considering how much potentially negative impact it could have, even if chances are low, I dont feel like I would be in a moral position to decide its worth it for the newborn.

Better imo to just have a healthy non-drug pregnancy and raise the child well so that he/she can eventually decide what to do with their lives regarding substances.

what is "only mild effects to newborns" ?
Depending on the method of detoxification the hospital uses, a methadone maintained newborn will usually show slight signs of sneezing and can have roughly 5 to 10 days of any of several opiate replacement medications to ease the little ones into a normal comfortable life.

Not to avoid the question but nausea, sneezing, some trouble holding down food if formula is given instead of the mothers breast milk. Contrary to what most nurses in most neonatal units around this part of the united states, the minor amount of methadone that is actually present in the mothers milk is essential to weening the newborn with as little throwing up as possible.

Would your conscience really be so at ease risking it if it was your own child?

We are talking about my son thats in my wifes womb as I type this. She wont do it and I dont blame her one bit. Who really does know what could possibally happen.

But this is an interesting subject.

I would be more concerned about the instant physiological stress effects on the fetus than and psycological effects it may have. I dont think its a good idea. Abstain for 9 months.

..just to be controversial..better DMT than caffine, nicotine or prescription anti-depressants (& plently of babies put up with them)
..in fact, for pure vaped DMT, in normal dosages, i can find no anecdotal or medical evidence that this would harm the foetus
(though i'm not endorsing this, mind you)

old thread I know. BUT, I love D, but more than that I love my 3 children. This shouldn't even be up for debate. I can't believe this even made it from thought to a typed word. Disgusting. Absolutely absurd. Shame on you.

Would they still, if they'd know about the infant brain and how fragile it is?

I think many of them, especially the ones doing aya, are well aware that an infants brain is fragile. Its not really a hard thing to figure out. If there were any noticeable negative results from what they did they would probably have stopped doing it thousands of years ago imo
