I was wondering about the effect of residual spice in a machine? I've journeyed with my machine roughly about 25-30 times...my machine is coated with thick dmt resin, and strangely enough lately, my experiences have been dark and hyperspace entry unavailable..I am wondering if this could be because I need to re-filter it with more steel wool and start clean? I know clean and new is best, and all that...but do you think leftover spice could instigate negtive/darker journeys? Thanks! yea maybe so, its always possible, ive found my pipe for some reason puts me off if it gets too dirty an oily in the gauze there obviously gonna be some dmt oxide in there so thats maybe why, ive had similar things but only with smaller doses, it seems rather dark an gloomy, ive just cleaned my pipe so i can see if it effects the trip and makes it nicer again next time i do one. i never bothered smoking any of the residue that evapped from the acetone i washed it with, it smelt rough as fuck an didnt look to nice either so i chucked it out, shame cos my pipe was covered i x-tails all down the stem. PROHIBITION?? - just say NO!!

I agree with you on smoking the resin, that stuff looks GNAR...I am about to change the steel wool, so I get rid of the crap inside of it, but do you think its necessary to clean the whole pipe? THere is resin all over the walls of it, but I figure as long as it stays in there, and doesn't travel into the stem, then I should be alright...I figure maybe that leftover spice could do some good some day, I just don't have the cajones to try it now..lol "The search for Truth is the Greatest, if not, most Sensible form of Rebellion."

Is your machine made out of glass? If so I'd recommend a solid cleaning with acetone. I think I read somewhere that DMT is attracted to itself, and if you have a glass chamber coated with DMT resin, less vapor will make it through to you, and hence making it more difficult to break through. I could be wrong though. Cap it, fill with IPA, plug the hole and shake. IPA does the trick on SWIM's peripherals. To recycle residual actives, save the IPA rinses and evaporate, give the resin a good wash with distilled white vinegar (leave the insolubles be, they're not active and can be discarded), decant the vinegar, filter and evap; use the acetates as seen fit.

acetone...I'm guessing just check out my local hardware store...So basically I would be washing and recrystalizing my used spice? That actually sounds badass..am I following correctly? "The search for Truth is the Greatest, if not, most Sensible form of Rebellion."

That actually sounds badass..am I following correctly? IPA may be cheaper and is definitely less suspicious, but acetone should also work fine (SWIM would prefer procuring solvents at the pharmacy to doing so at the hardware store). Simple recrystallization would not be recommendable, since inactives will dissolve in acetone, IPA and the like. The inactives won't dissolve in vinegar, however, which is why the vinegar wash is recommendable; plus the impurities likley won't allow recrystallization, as they tend to be a bit gooey.

imo acetone is easier an cheaper for me to use, ipa costs nearly £15 per litre here in the uk, i can buy 99.5% acetone online or off ebay for under £3/ltr. acetone seems to dissolve stuff better and quicker and it also evaps off a lot quicker than ipa does. i cleaned out my actual gauze in the acetone aswell so i think the dark nasty stuff mostly came from that and not the glass. il clean them separately next time an see if any crystals appear. If using acetone, just make sure it's pure (SWIM used to use kleanstrip, which is supposedly just water and acetone with a trace of xylene, thus pure enough for most purposes). I suppose acetone is cheap enough by volume, dissolves a bit better and evaporates faster, but SWIM's found IPA to be sufficient in all regards as well as multi-purpose in his case (extraction-related purposes, sterilization, as well as cleaning). He would also like to add to his instructions for cleaning with IPA (he would apply it with acetone, as well: Perform a rinse with water prior to use in order to remove all traces of hazardous solvents, and if not to be used immediately, apply heat to dry and prevent oxidization of the heat-sink (with SWIM's devices, he typically stores them in IPA when not in use to help prevent oxidization).

Just to update this thread, I decided to go ahead and switch out the wool...MADE 150% DIFFERENCE...I couldn't believe it, but cleaning it has brought on "clean" spice journeys..It makes sense, especially when one views DMT as the ultimate cosmic mirror...a mirror of our inner settings as well as outer...It makes perfect sense if one smokes burnt spice, they will have a "burnt" experience, so to speak...Honestly, I felt as if the molecule was super stoked that I cleaned it...Maybe its just me... I agree with you about the burnt thing! What did you end up using to clean it? And what was your method? Well, my method wasn't too amazing...I took a thin screwdriver, went through the bottom hole, popped out the brillo pad from behind. I heated up the neck, so all the old spice stuck to the sides could drip down into the barrel, joining the rest of it. I then applied a new chunk of brillo, burning off the coloring first. It was amazing how much a difference it made. I'm not really one to be picky and overly-clean, but in this case, it really did make all the difference! I'm actually gonna go launch right now!
