Shaman's don't use DMT. They use plants as a tool to communicate with the spirit world. I doubt that many of them have even heard of DMT. Yes, some of the plants they use contain DMT, but they are making ayahuasca out of it, not smoking it.

Not to be rude, but if you are considering embarking on a spirit quest then you need to do a TON of research on your own. What you are proposing is not something that can be planned out for you.
However, to briefly answer your question:
Moving down and becoming an apprentice to a currandero in Peru or Brazil. If you are truly interested there ARE many sites that can help you plan for this.
If you are really interested you should check out the ayahuasca forums...they have a subform dedicated to these types of quests.
