Here are a few herbs worth looking into... i wish you a quick recovery! Smile

Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum)
Another incredible herb known as one of the safest, most reliable remedies used to relieve flu symptoms. It can act quickly to alleviate severe bone pain, reduce fever, and help clear upper respiratory congestion. Boneset is one of the herbs that proved extremely beneficial in the 1918 Influenza. Many Native Americans used boneset for fever, chills, sore throat, colds, influenza, and pneumonia.

Lomatium dissectum ~ Indian Balsam or Biscuit Root
Lomatium is considered "Big Medicine" by Native Americans. During the 1918 influenza epidemic, this traditional plant medicine was well documented as having saved many Native people's lives. In fact, the Nevada State Board of Health clearly stated that "no member of the Washoe, Paiute, or Shoshone tribes who included their native "Toh'-sa" in their treatment, perished from the influenza that swept the state of Nevada in 1918." Since then many prestigious institutions have studied the effects of this ethnobotanical and report that it has strong antimicrobial properties. Contemporary use highly values its effectivenesss in treating the most difficult viral conditions such as HIV/AIDS, pnuemonia, bronchitis, and hepatitis.

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra ~ Black Elder)
According to leading British herbalist, David Hoffmann ~ "The elder tree is a medicine chest in its own right." Research tells us that the anthocyanins in elderberries enhance immune function. The elder flowers and berries can be utilized as medicinal treatment for colds and influenza. The berries are anti-viral and the flowers astringent and
anticatarrhal.

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea)

Hailed as a supreme immune system herb, echinacea was one of the most important North American Native plants. Most healing disciplines agree it has the ability to enhance weakened immune defense, and is a primary choice when one feels threatened by influenza. The Eclectic Physicians advised using echinacea from the beginning of a cold or flu, until symptoms were relieved.

Lobelia (Lobelia inflata)
Considered a very valuable herb in all stages of epidemic influenza, it stimulates circulation, and alleviates cough through expectoration. An excellent antispasmodic (substance that relieves smooth muscle spasms) used primarily for conditions of bronchitis and asthma. It's been said that lobelia is unequaled in overcoming the oppressed condition of the chest, especially when bronchitis or broncho-pneumonia complicates the case during an attack of influenza.

Pleurisy Root - Asclepias tuberosa
Traditional use: expectorant, respiratory tonic, diaphoretic
Used by Native Americans since before the Europeans arrived to treat lung disorders, including pleurisy, pain when breathing, pneumonia, colds, flu, bronchitis, etc. It is considered a specific for chest congestion with thick mucus and a tight feeling. Pleurisy root is also used to promote sweating and opening of the lung capillaries, allowing more moisture to enter the lungs to thin the mucus, which can then be expelled more easily.

Those are really good but when I was working at fungi perfecti I learned a lof about medicinal mushrooms. Get the mycodefense it's amazing, but it's incomplete. Paul exaggerates things a little. You need to work with neem leaf and combine it with the mycomedicinals. I beat the swine flu in a day. If you take both daily you actually won't get sick any more. I've not gotten a cold in three years.

Well one personal remedy that works well for me is a simple "lemon and peppermint" tea. Tea in general seems to help clear the congestion up, peppermint works well in clearing up my sinuses, and the lemon helps get rid of any sore throat. I might also add some ginseng in their too.

EDIT:

@ Dorge

Why is it that SWIY says the Neem leaf completes the mycodefense picture? What in SWIYs mind completes it?
