Hello fellow Nexians!

I was wondering if anyone here has ever spent any time volunteering in South America? I am considering taking some time away from the States to try and do some good elsewhere. I have since spent much of my time considering different options, and I have somehow always some back to my first choice: South America. Of course, I have a personal desire to drink true Ayahuasca, but this is but a side mission of what I am hoping to be at least a couple months work of devotion to a cause.
As far as my own background, I have a B.A. in Psychology, but, unfortunately, no knowledge of the Spanish language. Due to the fact that I am not looking for a pay-to-volunteer opportunity, but, rather a more direct hand, this may cause some cause for concern, I think. I have been looking into different opportunities through this website:
http://www.volunteersouthamerica.net/Some require Spanish, but others do not, so it may not be entirely out of the question. Both my brother and my mother speak a bit of studied Spanish, and their old materials seem to be the most immediately viable personal option. I am not considering the final leave for some time in order to plan accordingly, so I am looking for any input anyone may have.
Has anyone done such a thing in the past and can comment on their experience? I figured this would be an ideal place to turn for like-minded folks who may have been through what I am considering. Thanks everyone!
