So i have some odd looking spice that was given to me by a friend. If the description is no help i will post a picture. But this spice has large rock like crystals that are dark yellow with a waxy appearance. These smell exactly like spice but: When washed with ammonia there is no visible change in color. and when placed in warm naptha they do not seem to dissolve.

Any idea what is the matter? is this spice or something else? i havent tried it yet because i want to re-x it.

Oxidized spice is insoluble in naptha. Could it be old and converted into DMT-N-oxide?

Why don't you ask your friend about his extraction process to figure out how the spice got into the state it's currently in?

Yes it is possible that it is old. Does DMT-n-oxide show up in a hardened form, for some reason I was told its only in a goo form?

first of all, forget ammonia wash.

Then, how warm was the naphtha, how much of naphtha were you using, and what was the weigh of the spice trying to be dissolved ?

@endlessness, I wish you were in my kitchen, prolly increase my yield by proximity.

The ammonia wash I did prior to the many suggestions not to use it. I dont have a scale where im at now. As far as temps and amounts, i used the process suggested in the wiki if you dont have a scale.

Was the water heated to boil, fire off, and then warm bath on the container with dmt+solvent? If you keep at that and keep stiring, pressing around the dmt, it should dissolve at least some of it, you should notice the solvent getting colored and/or the dmt getting smaller.. The dmt being waxy/harder isntead of crystals makes it harder to dissolve for sure, but just break it up a bit and mix it aorund, it should work. Add more naphtha if after a few minutes you see no more dissolution.

Let us know how it goes

yes, you listed the steps i used endlessness. Upon looking again they seem to be getting smaller in size. I must keep reminding myself, Patience provides.

thanks everyone.
