So I had 100ml of ethanol that had caapi leaf soaking in it for some time. It was a 10x extract. I was attempting to make a few grams of changa. I took the dark green liquid and mixed in 2 grams of spice. I knew it was going to be iffy on weather or not it would fully dissolve so I warmed up a small pot of water to use as a heat bath to warm the mixture up a bit so it would completely dissolve. The water was getting very warm but not quite hot and I was stirring the mixture with a glass stirrer and the phone rang.....

and I turned the burner off and instead of taking the glass rod out and setting it down, I left it in the mini beaker and walked away to answer the phone. What a stupid move! the glass stirrer was heavy enough to dump the beaker over and into the water bath.

Now I have 600ml of a greenish brown liquid that is 500ml of H2O 100ml of 10x caapi ethanol and 2grams of spice.

Anyone have a suggestion? can I evap it like this and will it still be good? Whats gonna evap first water or ethanol? How will that effect the spice? I did put the entire solution into a big jar and shook it good. I believe the spice was about, but not quite 100% dissolved but it was very close. I did add the two grams of caapi leaf to the mixture.

Now with my limited knowledge I'm thinking, no problem it will just take allot longer to evap? It should still come out as good changa, right?

The mixture was never contaminated really.

anyone? thoughts? besides how much of a dumbshit I am. lol

Evaporate the entire mixture. Ethanol is going to evap first. It won't hurt the spice at all. Once it's fully evaporated I'd get it back into ethanol quickly. I'm sure others with more experience will give better advice...but that's what I'd do it I was in your situation. Smile

Yea, an evap of the entire solution should result in no loss of goodies.
You could increase the pH to precipitate spice and harmalas, but ethanol's presence eliminates this as an option.
Ethanol is miscible with water and afaik will not evaporate prior to the water because it has become a homogenous solution.

500mL evap seems the best option.
