This is a trip report for my cats. No, this is not a variation on SWIM. Those of you who know me understand that I have six cats and am fairly devoted to them.

Well, I procured a potent catnip extraction from a friend. Pulled from the catnip leaves & flowers and suspended in water, it was in a spray bottle. Two of the four cats were in the room. Others were elsewhere in the apartment.

I picked up a cat toy and sprayed it from a distance. My husband and I could see the aresol begin to fill the room. I dosed two more toy mice in a different direction to spread more extraction around the room.

The top cat, Nepthys came running forward. As soon as she hit the aresol in the room her tail immediately perked right up into an extreme erect position, with the tip nearly touching her head. She brrrrrppp'd, took a few hits, attacked the special needs cat, Neith, ran by me making a bizarre noise I had never heard and stumbled off to pass out in her box.

Neith took a few hits off a toy and immediately lost her footing, beginning to roll and mark in that extreme catnip-dosed way that cats do.

The only male of the group, Havana/Horus jumped off of my husband's lap and you could just see the aresol settle around him and his intoxication increase as he took a few breaths. Then he walked over to a dosed toy, took a hit and it hit him like a wall. Reminded me of my reaction to 5-meo-DMT. He was just gone. Lost is footing, flopped down, rolled, brrrped. . . . .

The oldest and fattest, Selket took a couple hits off a mouse and immediately just became rolly-polly.

Isis, our conservative cat who dissaproves of drug use, decides that the entire scene is way too much but she wants to be part of the family. So, she picks up an old, ratty catnip toy that has NOT been dosed, and begins to play with it. Soon she stumbles off to fall asleep.

The youngest, Hathor, took a couple hits then retreated to try to gather her wits underneath a desk chair. At least that's what I thought. I look over once and she's marking it heavily. I look over again and am floored to see my little kitty literally humping the chair leg!

Sooner rather than later, all of the silliness devolves into so very passed out cats, lazed all over the place. I look over at my husband, and he has assumed a super-languid, cat-like posture and passed out too! My husband, known for getting infamous “contact highs” at festivals, known for tripping just by “looking at drugs,” has managed to cop a contact high off of our cats dosed on catnip!

A couple hours later everyone is awake but you can tell, they literally have these wicked hangovers. All except my husband, who is fine and normal.

Overall, we were amazed at how fast it hit them and how strongly it affected them. The extracted catnip solution is so much more powerful than any leaf, toy or live plant I have ever worked with.

My conclusion – this is going up on a very high shelf, to be taken down only once in awhile as a very special treat. That and they still seem to be getting re-dosed by sniffing the toys. I may have to put them up. Clearly a little goes a long way.

hahaha nice report! swim has just given some valerian roots to his cat and he's become jiggly and mewly,he has become to rub himself on it and to the nearest chair and after some tokes he had a strong orgasm,he has stiffened ands has strong quakes for 2 secs,after that he layed down and has become drowzy and he has stop to me meow....

Good report Pandora! I have found cats and catnip very fascinating over the years.. watching my cats drool and try to climb up the wall never gets old.

So, sorry to be that guy, but let me get this straight....

You dosed your cats on catnip. Because you believe that thats ok. And its posted here, because obviously everyone else does too.... yet cats liking DMT, walking in the way of DMT smoke, everyone bashes and says "cat abuse"? I just don't get it......

Sure, you may think your cats like catnip, they even might... but just because it's "for" cats, doesn't make it right for people to dose up there cats intentionally on catnip and then in turn "yell" at others for "dosing up cats who like dmt"....


Sorry to be that guy... I just think it's funny.

I just want to add: I don't condone dosing up animals on anything they don't WANT to. If they want it, then they should have the option to get it.

Also, I'm sorry to say, but I believe that dosing animals is against the rules, and I feel should be punished.

But, I guess we'll see.

Catnip is known as a feline treat, not as a feline drug. Same with edible cat treats, you give them those treats to enjoy, not to make them fat. Many toys for cats have catnip in them to give more enjoyment to the cats while playing.

Looking at Pandora's post you can see that she did not 'dose' the cats but that she sprayed a little in the room to get the attention of the cats and that she sprayed it on the toys to make them better playable for her cats. I also read she is doing that for the enjoyment of the cat and not for getting them dosed on drugs. Later on you can read her surprisement of the strength of the extracted catnip and the results of it on her cats. She also mentioned she will put it far away since it is so strong.

See it as the difference between playing with your cat for the joy of the cat and playing with your cat in a cruel way. Looking at the post of Pandora she played in a loving way with her cats.

There is a big difference between using your cat as a tool to know which weed is good and giving your cat a catnip treat. So no repercussions needed for this one.

Thanks Traveler. Catnip is a natural feline entheogen. One could conceivably argue hops and potentially marijuana too. I've also heard about Valarian as mentioned above, but never used it on my cats.

I don't believe that humans should dose cats with human drugs. It's just that simple. I don't weigh much, but my fit cat only weighs 1/10th of what I do. So a simple puff or taste of a human drug will obviously cripple a cat just based on body mass.

Also, I have lived with and been an informal student of cat behavior for a long time now. They do NOT think like us. Therefore human drugs will not affect them like they affect us. Fear is a big part of a cat's natural life, even a well adjusted, spoiled cat. They are naturally high strung. Their evolutionary place is as BOTH predator and prey. Yeah, lions may be the king of the beasts but kitties are predator AND prey. That is NOT the same as being the top of the food chain, like us. Fear plays a much bigger role in their lives.

I have watched cat trip. It was one of the most heart breaking things I have ever witnessed. It was a horrific 18 hours for all of us. You want a sense of it? Go to google and enter, Cats on LSD. Think it's funny? Well, I honor your sadistic opinion if you do.

Yeah, I have been outspoken about dosing cats with human drugs, in particular powerful psychedelics. In my opinion it is wrong, as cats cannot consent. It is just that simple. Ignore all my rants. Just remember, cats cannot consent. Would you dose a 2 year old?

Having said that, come on people CATnip is legit. Play your word games if you want, if it makes you feel better about torturing your cat, I really do not care. It gives my fixed cats a bit of a sexual thrill and a safe buzz of silliness followed by sedation. I would never spray my cat in the face with catnip. I sprayed 3 toys and that caused loose drops to aeresolize into the air and have a rather profound effect. Lesson learned. Spray is put up, and when it comes down in the future, a single toy will be lightly dosed.

I would never ever give my cat a human drug, especially a psychedelic. I wish I could share with you what I witnessed. It was one of the most tragic and heartbreaking days of my life.

Well, I just don't agree with what you did.

To me thats like smoking out a room full of THC vapor and saying "Hey kids come here and play" and then when they start to freak out you say "OH SHIT" and feel bad.

It's whatever though, whatever we need to tell ourselves.

I picked some catnip in the botanical garden this summer and gave it to my friends cat.

Come on man, really? This is the same weak analogy that people were trying to make sound logical in the chat earlier. A more appropriate analogy would be if you subbed out a room full of THC vapor and invited your friends who WANTED to get high to come hang out in the room and then laughed about how stoned everyone was.

If the cats WANT catnip (i.e. they would seek out the catnip-laced toys on their own) then what is wrong with playing the intermediary? If Pandora was aware that her cats would willingly and of their own volition seek out catnip, why should she refrain from providing it to them? If you know your cat hates catnip or reacts adversely, don't give it to them...otherwise, giving them catnip is no different than giving them food, shelter, etc. You're just satisfying the animal's needs/desires, as any good pet owner should.

We always give Abaya (nip loving cat) nip in the same spot right in the sun patch by the porch door. She will go to that spot and cry if she has been without it for a while.
