Hey all, I was just curious about a method of spice vaporization that's been brewing in my head, and as a spice-virgin, I was just hopeful that some more experienced members could perhaps comment on the viability of this type of smoking device.

I have attached an image of the theoretical device, which could easily be assembled for a relatively low price (plus for me, the kicker is that I already own all of the necessary materials). The idea is based off of a bong with a bowl made for hash oil, and simplified to use common materials.

The necessary materials would include:
-a 1-2 foot length of 2" inner diameter Acrylic Pipe (read plexiglas)
-a small sheet of plexiglass (big enough to form a proper base for the pipe)
-silicone sealant
-a test tube
-2 1-holed rubber stoppers (at least one must fit snugly in the test tube)
-a 6-12 inch piece of glass tubing

The use of this device seems relatively simple and obvious, but basically you insert your dose of spice into the test tube, and get it down towards the bottom, hold your flame/heat source below the base of the test tube, and when you start seeing vapor, begin to inhale slowly. When all (or enough) spice is vaporized to allow for your appropriately sized rip, release a carb hole above the water level, and take your hit.

Basically, I just wanted to throw this idea out there and ask for feedback/criticism as if I get the go ahead, this or something similar will probably be the tool I use to vaporize my first spice at some unknown time in the future.

Thanks in advance!

Avoid test tubes at all cost.

You want to apply direct heat to the DMT without changing the temperature of the surroundings. As the surface around th DMT heats up, it will melt and move to the coldest area.

However if you actually wanted to paint a test tube with DMT, this is very efficent Smile

Does the DMT really crawl up the sides of the test tube like that if heating the bottom? That's pretty incredible... haha well damn, that kinda puts a wrench in the gears of that plan... How exactly does smoking it out of a "meth pipe" or a "crack pipe" work if that's what happens though?

For me it doesn't.

I never tried a meth pipe but when I used the light bulb method I got minimal vapour with maximum effort. The simplest way for me was to melt the DMT into a herb or sandwich it between ash so you can use a lighter on it direct without it catching. I had some very effective breakthrough experiences with these latter 2 methods, but after recently acquiring a vaporgenie which applies direct heat to the spice without the flame going anywhere near it I have found that pure vaped DMT tastes a lot milder than using a flame, even onto spice covered in inert ash.

Oh ok, thanks very much for the help!
Yeah I had heard light bulbs weren't too great. Would it work out if I stuffed some steel wool into the bottom and melted it in prior to vaporization like in "the machine" type devices? That would help to spread out all the heat before vaporization wouldn't it?

And I think I would just go with the sandwich method, but I'm really into DIY and making your own things, so this just seems like a fun project to me rather than going out and buying a piece.

EDIT: Or does the mesh plug idea only work if there is another hole near the bottom to let flame in? In that case, it wouldn't be too hard to work out and incorporate into the design, though it would be essentially no different from a large "the machine bubbler" right?

A lot of folk use mesh with heat from above methods, but heating from below works great too as gravity can somewhat counteract the heat displacment.

How about rather than a closed tube, have it open ended with a ball of mesh at one side so you just point the flame upwards and inhale?

Basically you're just suggesting that I do something as simple as drill a small hole in the base of the test tube or do something similar right?
That definitely would not be too difficult to arrange as the only thing I'd need additionally would be a glass drill bit or some other source of tube...

yeah, then maybe premelt the spice onto the mesh before inserting.

I think that would work very well.
