I just have to ask, this has been bugging me for a while and now I have to wonder. I've only done pain killers a few times because I know that I have an addictive personality and I don't want to travel down that road. But each time I've done them, I honestly haven't really felt that much, and the second time I took any opiate it was a 60 mg OxyContin. About an hour and a half ago I took three 10/325 Vicodins and an hour later felt totally sober, so I snorted one and then took another. This is the fourth time I've attempted to use opiates in the span of two years, each months apart, and I'm still barely feeling a buzz. Do any of you have this issue? I'm not trying to become an addict here, I'd just like to feel what's so great about them at least once. Confused

I personally don't have any experience with This and only minimal opiate experience. They aren't my thing.

However, a friend of mine gets zero effect from opiates. He's done oxycontin, codeine etc. I guess he became annoyed enough that he did heroin and STILL felt nothing. He gave up. I don't know why this happens and neither does he. I bet Someone does. I just wanted to let you know that its not only You. I'm curious to see why This happens.

Its not that opiates dont work for you, you just doesnt understand what an opiate high is.
The subtle high of opiates is cause for concern in novice users who dont understand they're on the verge of having an OD yet dont even think theyre high at all cause theyre trying to compare opiate high to the high of other drugs, when its high can be best compared to a nicotine high.
When you take LSD does everyone in the room turn into reptiles having an orgy like in Fear and Loathing in LV? Of course not. How many kids took LSD and expected that to happen, then when it didint, said "LSD doesnt work well for me, I only saw breathing walls and shifting colors, no one turned into a reptile, no leprichauns were flying in the air, and god didint talk to me". Alot I bet.

Ah, well that's a good to know, maybe there is a known reason for it somewhere out there. They aren't really my thing either, luckily, so I'm not too bummed out by it. I've been trying to give downers a chance lately but I don't really think it's gonna work out, I don't really get hit hard by benzos either, and when I do I completely get what happens.

Haha, well after all the times I've tried to make it work I'm sure that's factoring in, too! But I'd be willing to bet it's both, the first couple times I tried things I didn't really have any expectations, and I was judging my experience by the way my friends felt. On that OC I barely felt anything at all, maybe a tiny mood lift, whereas my friend who had also dosed had a huge grin plastered on his face and eyes half closed, and he was slurring and off in his own world. We smoked some weed a little after that and what feeling I had was replaced by just being high. The time after that, the same friend wanted me to snort one to see how it worked on me, and while he was up in the clouds, I was just mildly tired, not enough to nod or anything, comparable to maybe taking some melatonin but then deciding not to go to sleep. Those vicodin last night eventually did give me something, but I'd say it was probably about as strong as taking a hit of some low-grade weed and not holding it in very long, and I had taken four and snorted one.

I have, but I'm not tripping right now. I can already guarantee that I would have a bad trip, I'm working through some stuff in my life right now that I'm positive wouldn't mix well with a psychedelic experience. Although, I have to say, DMT never really did it for me. It's not that I don't think it's a powerful entheogen, I just don't think it's the type of experience I'm looking for right now. I found a massive dose of LSD much more satisfying.

I have always had a very high tolerance to opiates. Both of my parents were heroin addicts and I was born addicted to opiates. My mother shot heroin and who knows what else throughout her pregnancy. That might have something to do with my high tolerance. Do your parents have a history of opiate use?

Well, I'm pretty sure my mom never did any, or at least not more than once or twice. From what I'm told, she never really went past smoking weed and occasionally drinking, and I'm told she tried acid once while really drunk, haha. My dad used heroin, I'm pretty sure, but I don't think he ever did it enough to be considered an addict, or at least if he did he got out of it quick. I know he was very adventurous about drug use like myself, but from what I understand he never really cared that much for most things besides psychedelics. Either way, I'm completely sure they weren't using opiates when my mom was pregnant; I think my dad's drug use peaked somewhere around ages 18-25, and when I was born he was 41. However, given the complexity of human development, I suppose his heroin use at any time could have factored into it.

Its absolutely true that some people do not get significant effects from mu agonist opioids and it is thought to relate to a developmental issue with the receptors. This has plusses and minuses- those affected are much less prone to addiction but should they have a properly painful affliction it can make it very hard to manage their discomfort.

Did you just pop the OxyContin tablet, or did you grind it into as fine a pile of powder first before ingesting?
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

I envy you... I am for one a person who feels opiates very easily (or at least I did at one point). This quickly developed into an IV heroin habit.....just an fyi, I started by just popping a few painkillers too.

Do be careful, it can get away from you quickly and takes a lot to get life back in order.

Hopefully I don't get such an affliction, I've been lucky enough to avoid anything too terrible so far! The first time, my friend and I each had one and we divided them into halves; he didn't have much of an opiate tolerance either and, not being too familiar with the differences in strength between pills, wanted to make sure we weren't dosing too high to begin with. I believe we took the other halves around 20-30 minutes later (it was a little over a year and a half ago now). The second time, they were ground up and snorted.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, I definitely don't plan to keep trying to force painkillers to work for me if they're just not going to. I guess I should look at it on the bright side, like I said, I do have a pretty addictive personality so that could turn nasty.

OxyContin, made by NAPP Pharmaceuticals as is found in the UK has a 'biphasic' modified release profile these days, with a small amount released quickly and the rest released over a further 11ish hours.

Acolon_5 is so right when he says the occasional use of such compounds can quickly get out of hand once the user gets to appreciate and enjoy the buzz.Extreme caution or better still, total avoidance is recommended.
