I like non-electronic music with a groove and lush harmony (lots of early Queen and Pink Floyd). I don't even know how well this song matches any of that description, but here's one that has worked wonders for me (it gets more upbeat towards the end). A lot of people prefer no lyrics, but I could take em or leave em (incidentally there is an instrumental version of this song without any vocals)

I have a passive interest in Joe Satriani. I am very big into instrumental guitar though. I like Steve Vai a lot. I know Vai and Satriani can be pretty similar, but I dunno why I gravitate more towards Vai. I don't know how to label Bumblefoot's music. He can be all over the map in a way like I've never seen. Something I'd like to point out is that he does all the guitar, bass, and vocals (including backup vocals/vocal harmonies). He does all the writing and what not. Pretty much the only thing he doesn't do is usually the drums. He is hands down my favorite musician and one of the most underrated, under-appreciated, and unknown (to many) musicians of all time. Here's another one by him. A bit more up-beat. I could literally talk about his music for hours (and I have) and I never have any idea where to start on what to listen to, and nothing I can say or show here can really do him justice, but here's another.



[edit] Also, here's a good video to really acquaint you with his personality as well as his playing. His is the voice you hear first as he is initially off camera, but it soon switches and he plays and fools around a bit.

You probably gravitate toward Vai because he's so much better I love Vai all the way through the first 2 albums and then he started to lose focus IMO. Well, I actually read the liner notes of Flex-Able and took them to heart. He promised some stuff he's never delivered on. I like Ron Thal, he's really good, but not strange enough for me. Have you heard the Freak Guitar albums by Matias Eklundh? Craziness. Oddball. I can't stand his pop band Freak Kitchen, but his solo stuff is really nuts. Very unhinged.
On the subject of psychedelic guitar albums, one of my favorites has always been Gravity by Fred Frith. It's experimental R.I.O. style and not psychedelic in the san francisco or 60's sense, but it is very psychedelic. Never listened to it on DMT, but it was always an LSD favorite. Strangely two other guitarists whose last names start with the letters FRI were featured regularly during acid trips, Robert Fripp and Bill Frissell. Hmmm...

Oh yeah, Mattias Eklundh is awesome. I listen to him all the time. I agree that Freak Kitchen isn't as good though.

[edit] That Frith song is pretty cool too. It has an interesting rhythm. It feels like it's in 7/8

Wow that Champagne Satriani song was tight. Also some lesser known artists in similar veins that I like are Patrick Carlsson and Milan Polak. Can't find much Carlsson on youtube, but this may be a decent sample of what he's about (the album I have titled Melodica is much better IMHO)

Also a few months ago, I was on a fair amount of acid, so I created this pretty tripped out sound to work with and just started improvising. It's 100% unedited, and I felt like I was more painting with sound than playing. Towards the end I kick all the effects except distortion and some wah. carrying on from the instrumental guitar, clichéd I know, but I'd imagine freebird (lynyrd skynyrd) would make good after-experience listening. (SWIM's yet to meet with dimitri... soon though... ) Something light, easy, inspiring and with an awesome solo. Certainly makes good stoned listening; I'd imagine one could reflect on the lyrics rather deeply in a post-experience glow. Once SWIM's past meditating on the experience itself straight after, SWIM'll try this, let y'all know how it goes.
Also, just something to chuck out there, kind of a love-it-or-hate-it, but check out A Glorious Dawn, by, uuh, symphony of science. Remix of Carl Sagan's ramblings with a bit o' Hawking chucked in for good measure. Extremely inspiring for me 'specially the WUB Dubstep remix. (but then again, I do have 2 x 300W RMS subwoofers... disco-power levels of bass :3 ). Something I'd imagine would be good to actually smoke to, if you get a friend to fade it out once you start trippin'

I think of music as something that normally intensifies a "trip" when on most other psychedelics, however, I wonder if with DMT this could detract from the overall experience.


I have read about the traditional shamanic "icaros" . These are songs or melodies sung by a shaman to "guide" the traveler on his/her journey. In fact ,Ive read that those who participate in the traditional rituals would not dream of taking ayahuasca without the icaros being sung. The impression is that the traveler would be lost. I plan on listening to some on my journey tonight. I will post any pertinent experience then.


I have also heard that during dreams your pineal gland produce DMT, so i am go to start listening to these as I sleep.
