Easy, rewarding, high yeilding and damn good looking final product.
Extracted from black pepper.

Cool, those crystals are so damn nice! What would the use of piperine be, except in synthesis? Perhaps using it as a CYP3A4 inhibitor in order to potentiate entheogens? Or are you just extracting them for fun? Smile And by the way, how did you extract it?

By the way, piperine is supposed to increase the bioavailability of curcumin, a MAOI (RIMA) found in turmeric, by 2000%.

yeap piperine is an incredible substance - it was extracted with ipa - bombed out with water - filtered and re-x'd with ipa.

Great!
Had he more quickly realized just who they were,he would have shown them more respect.Had he tried harder to fathom their brilliant minds,he would have taken more of their teachings to heart.Had he more clearly understood the purpose of their being,
he would have more vigorously tried to assist them. They were truly honorable; he was sadly prejudiced.
They were exceedingly well informed; he was grossly ignorant. They were totally indefatigable; he so often, and so quickly, gave up. Still, for many years there was a strong inter-species alliance between the Eleven-Eleven of the Half-way Realm, their Seraphic Associates, and their flesh-and-blood friend, a common mortal. Much was accomplished, many profited, and, there’s only one regret...They could have achieved so much more...

Here is this link here with a few different methods of isolating piperine from black pepper. Has anyone tried dosing piperine in conjunction with an maoi? This could make the use of maoi's that would otherwise be too weak, like curcumin, useful in activating oral dmt or simply reducing the amount of harmala alkaloids needed for activation.

Update: Funky find, this site already sells premade pills containing both curcumin and piperine. Not sure what exactly it's intended use is.

Very promising project... I am wondering aboutits bioavailability enhancing properties : its a p-glycoprotein inhibitor...Hmmm could it alter pharmacokinetics of known molecules?

I hope we receive some reports about its combinations with other materials. I hope it does not stay as an "extracted and forgotten about curiosity",we seem to be having loads of them.

Great work, great photos. Thank you...
Folks may be interested in this Drugs - Forum thread, which summarizes some research and reports concerning curcumin (turmeric extract, a MAOI) potentiated w/ piperine, also a MAOI and increaser of bio-availability of a great many things... the author of the thread harvested some of what he presents from, you guessed it, the Nexus! Ah, the inter-webs - information WILL out! It seems to SWIM that a golden spice blend may be imminent: curcumin, pepper, and mimosa! She will certainly be bio-assaying as time allows...

http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140992

Phlux, care to share details of SWIY's tek? And has he ingested any of those toasty looking crystals? You appear to be a pioneer!

Thank you,
L

BTW, curcumin is wonderful, healthy stuff - I have supplemented with it for muscle aches to great effect. No liver toxifying Advil for me. The research on it's anti-depressive action is out there, too (see above). Concerning piperine, this Pubmed abstract is promising in the same regard - even giving Big Pharma a run for its money - what, anti-depressant foods!? But of course.

phlux almost all teks of extraction use etOH and KOH as base..i red somewhere NaOH is used to hydrolize piperine into piperic acid or something like it (that than could be oxidized with kmno4 to give piperonal..that's another story Pleased) what i would know is if in your opinion is possible to extract piperine just using 10% NaOH solution in etOH,swim hasn't access to KOH Confused
he is interested in this extraction couse he plan to buy some E100 (curcumine) and give a try to the pipercuminahuasca, maybe something like 300mg curcumine+50g piperine+50mg dmt Rolling eyes Wink
new research field is opened to public visitors Laughing

This tek does not require a base. You simply soak the ground black pepper in alcohol (99% IPA works great, I've even had success with 95% ethanol) for a few hours or a day if you have the time, shaking it up and letting it settle every now and again. After this, you decant the alcohol or filter out the black pepper and you have your alcoholic extract (it should smell strongly of pepper). You take this, and add an excess amount of water, the solution will cloud up immediately, set it aside and within a day or two crystals will begin forming. This is basically the same principle used in acetone bombing. The links I posted earlier in this thread explain in detail multiple methods of extracting piperine, and this is one of them. The reason this works is because piperine is insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol. Adding an excess amount of water to the alcoholic extraction results in precipitation of the piperine.

I have a question for the more chemistry savvy:

Why would NaOH cleave piperine but KOH wouldnt?

hey dude..you have just stolen my question!!Very happy
ok..50g of pepper in about 500ml of etOH 'pink' (adultered for not uman consuption) anyway piperine will be recrystallized so np! swim couldn't find curcumine near his home he found E102 but not E100 Confused
maybe he will extract some soon

Hmmm what is it adulterated with? I would be worried that quantities of adulterant might make it to the final product. Maybe IPA could have been a safer choice. First of all, find the adulterant if you can. Also, i suggest "exausting" the material: that is more soaking sessions (i would do it thrice).

On another note: given that you have a big volume of solvent i suggest that before adding water you concentrate it quite a bit. It will take liters of water to precipitate it otherwise.

2 numbers difference, a whole lot of diffence in practice Smile What you found is tartrazine, it goes without saying that it bears no relation to curcumin. Just saying, so others are not confused.

On the above: if anyone knows better, please correct me. I might be wrong in many issues.
