So I finally got around to ordering a separatory funnel and stand off of ebay. I have heard from several people that PTFE stopcocks are superior to ground glass as they don't stick and don't require lubricant, so thats what I got. My question is this; will the high pH from basification or solvents such as xylene have negative effects on the PTFE? I have been doing mescaline extractions and need it for after gassing out the HCl but also i want to start doing A/B's on my cactus to get the cleaner product. Has anyone had any problems from use of high pH or xylene with their PTFE stopcock?

I have used both GG and PTFE stopcocks and have never had problems with either including the use of strong solvents and HCL gassing. I could be wrong but as far as I know PTFE is unreactive with anything you'd use in a lab.

Have you heard of lye fuckign up the teflon itself on the pots or it just detaches it from the pots?

Sticking teflon to pots/pans/utensils etc is not an easy process and involves special adhesives, maybe that's what lye attacks and causes teflon coating to appear fucked up in the stories you've heard.

lye does nothing to solid teflon parts, and teflon is impervious to most solvents.

That makes sense as thats exactly what it said. It was on yahoo answers or something and people were asking how to get the teflon off of the pots. Thanks all. Is $90 total a decent deal for the unnel and stand? I got the funnel from united scientific on ebay for $60ish and the stand for $20 and $11 for shipping
