I wouldn't recommend anyone buy the mj600, i tried it with plain caapi leaf & it doesn't work as a vape, it doesn't do much at all then suddenly the caapi leaf starts burning, i smoked a good few bowls trying to get the technique down & its just not possible to vape with this device, not vape plain caapi leaf anyway.

Maybe it would vape spice, but i think it would just melt it then burn it when the caapi starts to burn, imo it would be easier to burn it slow with a normal lighter or a torch lighter.

Maybe this is just a cheap heat gun... i'd like to try what trickster is using as he said that even if you touch the gun on the material it wont burn, that is certainly not my experience, burning/combustion with this heat gun is unavoidable if you point it at your bowl.

In a perfect world, it would just be CO2 and water and CO if there's not enough oxygen available, but the reality is that incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons produces all sorts of byproducts; many of which may be detectable by taste--soot for instance. Bic lighters tend to produce soot, and have the same sort of taste when used on the same devices.

I have a simple Butane torch-lighter. Just an average cigarette lighter that produces an extremely hot, strong flame that can resist a severe storm.
Couldn't this be used just as effectively as a heat gun?

They are only about 2 to 3 euros. They can be refilled with Butane gas; of which cans can be bought for 3 euros.
Much cheaper alternative for the same effect.

I've often thought of making a vaporiser myself.
A simple used lightbulb could be placed over a fixed metal plate of metal that is a very good heat-conductor.
This plus a handle made of heat-resistant, ceramic material so it can be hand held.

This way the "pipe" could be held in one hand while the metal plate, with DMT or other sacred crystals are placed, could be heated from below with said torch lighter with the other hand. This is small, mobile and doesn't look or smell suspicious when DMT or similair crystals are smoked in a public park for instance.

I prefer a Dremel heat gun. So far I used it for changa and straight spice. My favorite vaporization device is a small dry glass bong. For straight spice I plug the bowl with a small wad of pre-burned SS scrub. For changa I use a single screen. I used this heat gun probably a hundred times and didn't manage to burn/ignite/overheat the product a single time. It seems impossible or at least very difficult because the heat gun does not produce visible flame outside its nozzle.

P.S. I never used any other heat guns, so my experience is limited. My second best is a powerful double-nozzle torch, but I burned the spice quite a few times before I've found its sweet point.

Still torches are better than Bics and candles, because they have extended regions above the flame where the temperature gradually drops from very high (~1300C) to room temp. With a Bic this area is relatively small, especially if you hold it at an angle to your bowl or pipe. Therefore your margin of error is quite small and you have to be very precise positioning your lighter.

I realise this is an old thread but I felt I wanted to add to it as it really helped me.

After reading all this I ordered a Dremel heat gun mainly because I liked he idea of being able to smoke out of any device with ease and all I can say is thank you Trickster for your great advice this thing works really well.You can smoalk from nice glass pieces with ease with no real worry of burning the spice. This is a great investment and the only thing I can't understand is why more people aren't doing this.
