that so many here are saying that dmt and psychedelics in general are only for the healthy and stable is strange, hypocritical, and disconcerting. do a google search on depression and psilocybin, for example, and you get results about the therapeutic value of psychedelics, its benefits for people with severe mental disorders, like post traumatic stress disorder, clinical depression and anxiety disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, the chronically unhealthy and the unstable, mixed in with results of disclaimers stating that these drugs should in no way be used by anyone but the healthy and mentally sound, and nothing in between. same thing here in the forums, its ridiculous. its my hope and experience that psychedelics are for the "unhealthy", and my opinion that they are the ones that deserve them the most. to promote the idea that only happy people should have access to these drugs is disgusting.
All of my post in these forums are part of a purely fictional, dialogue driven story, a work in progress written in an ongoing basis in collaboration with other forum members. I ask all who are interested to please use your imagination to contribute to this creative process.

although i have never done dmt (although i want to) i think i have enough experience with psychedelics to put in my two cents, first of all if you read up on the santo daime church you will find that they too are a religion based upon christianity who take ayahausca as a religious sacrament, they give it to children and even babies (in small doses of course) from what I hear there are no reported side effects in the children or anyone. Even though dmt is probably physically safe because it occurs naturally in the human body, has a high LD50, and is quickly metabolized, judging by my basic understanding with what a dmt is like (which for my reference I compare it to being similar to salvia divinorum, with variations) it may be mentally traumatizing or overpowering for anyone which could cause lifelong psychological problems. On the other hand it could also be an awakening of spirit, an encounter with god, or an extremely positive life changing experience which would benefit your daughter forever. The only other concern I have is that dmt is illegal unless you are a member of the santo daime church, although dmt containing plants are not illegal. So thats about all I have to say I think you have the final word and should do what you feel in your heart. Good Luck.

I think they are more worried that DMT will trigger some underlying condition. You could have one depressed person with great effects whereas another would react badly. If you fail to incorporate the experience into your life it can slowly eat away you.

It affects happy and unhappy people alike. I would argue that an unstable person would have more trouble integrating after the experience. Others would argue that it would help them and light the way. I suppose it's personal opinion based on what people have seen.

To say that we are trying to suggest only happy and stable people can use drugs is ALSO disgusting. Don't confuse precaution with prejudice.

Because we are explorers of consciousness. Sometimes you need too suffer a lot when seeking truth. Suffering can give you valuable truths about yourself, life and reality.

Dedicated truth seekers are ready to suffer. They are brave and like to expand their boundaries.

I couldn't agree more. DMT has worked well for me as an antidepressant, Ayahuasca moreso, but DMT gives me a clear head for days after a journey.

While some experiences in hyperspace are uncomfortable and painful, many are filled with joy, wonder, and a glimpse of the spark of the divine that lives in living beings. Though I agree 100% that exploring consciousness, whether in mediation or through the use of DMT can and will at times be unpleasant and sometimes painful.

I think it depends on the psychological disorder.
Psychedelics are good for depression and to treat drug abuse but I wouldn't give them to someone prone to schizophrenia or someone that has a history of delusional psychosis.

Hey StatuesCryBleeding! =) Great to see an intelligent and cautious young individual starting to recognize the truly wonderful and inexplicable phenomenon that is psychedelia.

I began using DMT somewhat regularly at a relatively young age, and my positive experience with it is as follows:

When I was 16, I started extracting DMT freebase from mimosa hostilis root bark. My parents disapproved of the use of any mind-altering substance (except for alcohol and caffeine, of course, which they consumed on a daily basis), so I was forced to stay up all night, performing this alchemy in my locked bathroom. When I had obtained my final, snow-white crystalline product, I knew I was ready. I went to bed that evening and set my alarm for around sunrise -- I'd be able to experience the trip in the sunlight, but I knew I wouldn't be bothered by anybody. I placed the crystals on some inactive herbs in a glass pipe, and proceeded to smoke.

Instantly all of my fears melted, and I was filled with awe and bliss, and incredulity at my own existence. Every aspect of my life struck me like a facet of a giant gleaming diamond. I remember bursting out laughing, and thinking, "I'm alive? I sleep? I dream?!" Hair, teeth, music, school, even the passage of time itself seemed like a part of an impossibly perfect work of fantasy literature written by the gods! I remember hearing my dad talking to my mom out in the kitchen, and it was like hearing an alien creature's communications. I heard his sentences in sloooow motion, every vowel and consonant forming a note in some sort of strange and totally enchanting melody. Before I knew it, *click* -- I was back to reality, stunned and absolutely thrilled.

Bottom line:

Ever since that first trip, I can still see into that extra dimension of real-life science-fiction, and it literally inspires me every day to push my life in a more positive and productive direction. I'm currently taking jazz piano lessons, practicing three to four hours a day, and I've graduated from high school early and I'm taking college courses in physics, mathematics, and psychology. I've also just finished programming an advanced scientific calculator application (and my software company's website) currently being used by the physics department at Yale University.

I sincerely hope I've helped in some way. If you want any more information, please don't hesitate to send me a Private Message. Peace! <3

My 17 year old daughter has been reading your site and wants to try dmt. I caught her ordering bark off the internet, and I don't know what to do or how to deal with it. She claims that she wants to try it because it is a unique experience and she want to explore and open her mind. She justifies the use of this drug by stating she does not drink alcohol, smoke pot, drink coffee or do anything else for that matter. I don't know much about this stuff. I've asked around on several answer sites but nobody seems to know anything. I know government sites are a flawed source of information. Obviously you druggies are going to point towards this stuff being safe, could you back that up with clinical studies or trials? I just want to know whats best for her and for her to be safe.

I think it is up to her to decide whether she tries DMT or not. I'd be interested to know whether she is considering oral, nasal, or smoked administration of the drug. DMT is very powerful, I know people who have taken it in their 40s and still not been ready for it, but I also know people who have taken it at the ages of 15 or 16 and gained a lot from it. It depends entirely on the person.

Is your daughter a responsible person? She seems it, she clearly isn't interested in taking it for fun, or she would be experimenting with the many other drugs out there (believe it or not there are plenty of safe fun drugs out there) - it sounds to me like she wants the spiritual benefits that DMT, Ayahuasca and other psychedelics possess. My personal advice is to let her try it, but before she does to remind her that it is a very powerful experience, and could be very frightening initially. If she is taking oral DMT, in the form of Ayahuasca, with an MAOI inhibitor such as Caapi, there is a good change she will vomit during the experience - this is not dangerous, but it can be unpleasant. You should supervise her, just be there if she wants someone to talk to, but don't interfere with the experience.

DMT is a very safe chemical, and it is actually present in trace amounts in the human body (though the source is still unknown) - the question is whether or not she is ready to benefit from it, and whether or not it will benefit her specifically. I think stopping her from taking it would be wrong, but make sure she knows plenty about it beforehand, it's always unwise to take any drug - physically safe or not, without the proper knowledge prior to dosing.

PS I'd definitely recommend watching the 2002 documentary "Shamans of the amazon" - it only covers Ayahuasca, aka oral DMT, but it is a very interesting documentary and explains some of the benefits and reasons people - particularly Amazonian shamans, use DMT.

Peace, best wishes to you and her - and if she does go ahead with it, I wish her a wonderful first journey into the world of DMT Smile

^ Seems to me that all of the "automatic-fun" drugs are the ones that suck you into addiction. Not even cannabis is a pleasure button.

Awesome story TheAppleCore truly inspiring. I also took my first psychedelic at 16 (lsd) and how can any of us possibly say when one is ready to begin the spiritual journey that will last a lifetime? If one is ready, then one is ready, and the spice will guide them to the path of enlightenment!

Could not agree more.

SO very true - quite often the trips that have you reduced to tears (but not through terror) are the ones that are most sustainably rewarding.

Really nice clear and concise way of putting it Smile thanks - that made me consider it from a different perspective/.

Why do we continue to take DMT even though we know we may be tortured, beaten, drowned, burned, ripped into pieces, placed through a cosmic wood chipper, or thrown off the edge of existence into a dark nothingness of infinite loneliness?

Because pain is as much apart of our reality as love and happiness are. For DMT to ignore this part of our lives would leave us with the unquestioning belief after each experience that we are invincible creatures, that life doesn't have to be painful, and our ego's would subsequently envelop our lives. How would we have ever learned to stay away from fire if we felt no pain?

The soul breaks down in order to rebuild stronger than ever.

The quote in my signature, "It takes humility to remember who we are", isn't there for no reason.

It is from a fantastic film called, "Ink". It's an independent piece that received little recognition.

I think the value of my post may fade into absolute nothingness in the light of all these other good and lengthy points , but , what i think is this:

1:I hate to bring this up , i really do, but a parent condoning , or even enabling their (minor)child to take a "drug " that is illegal, could end you and your daughter in a lot more trouble than a possibly wavered charge of possession. negligence and such.

2:if you do think that it is too strong as a first psychedelic , than maybe start with another one.I agree with this. I think one of the psychedelic cacti is a good idea , as you can order that legally through a loop hole. and it is much milder, often viewed as a very easy , calm psychedelic.

3: if you and your daughter are mature enough to talk about things like this, i think she may be more ready than the average 17 year old. and well done,i can tell you having the feeling that you've destroyed your parents view of you , over something you know isnt bad, can be rather traumatic.

I have more to say , but theres no point , my final answer is yes,let her do itSmile
Interesting to see where this goes . ..

Edit: i just read that youre going to leave it mainly for legal reasons, good move, no rush Smile , but im leaving this post up anyway

The trip reports seem down right terrifying, I don't know why anyone would want to experience ''it was the feeling of having every atom ripped apart in intense torture that seemed to have lasted eternity''

Why do you guys do dmt?[/quote]

some reasons,
To understand that the spirit lives on after the body dies.
To understand what the spirit truly is.
To learn sacred knowledge such as our telepathic ability.
To see life/consciousness in a way that is not understood through use of words.

most people that i know that use dmt are more 'explorers' than 'druggies'... oh and you have to take drugs to be a druggy!Very happy lel
