Check out Mogwai for some really great instrumental psychedelic indy rock. Come On Die Young is my favorite album of theirs...The Legendary Pink Dots are another really great band, I'm surprised no-ones mentioned them. I find Justin Beiber really trips me out as well Rolling eyes

Thanks for the 11:11 recommendation, I've ordered that.

For people who like their music very earthy and very organic dominated by beautiful instrumental vibe, then these two albums should appeal.

Avi Adir: Boomerang Dream

http://www.amazon.com/Bo...id=1288449905&sr=1-1

Ronu Majumbar and friends: Hollow Bamboo

http://www.amazon.com/Ho...id=1288449962&sr=1-1

This one seems to be really expensive on Amazon, worth getting hold of though if you can find a cheap one.

You are speaking my language. Pink Dots and Tear Garden are two of my all time favorites. The Dot's can be a little intimdating to a new comer since they have so many albums and the can sound so different. I'm a collector and just grab em all, but that could back fire on a first timer.

For dots for a first timer I would probably just have them grab the Collection "Cantas Mientras Puedas" which covers a lot of the period that I really enjoyed.

On the Mogwai front, Explosions in the sky has a great similar vibe. Was just posting something in another thread, and I saw this thread and it applies here too.

And for sure Bardo Pond.

Someone had mentioned old Krautrock stuff and I'm going to agree with that. Can, especially for the 3 great albums, 'Tago Mago', 'Ege Bamyasi' and 'Future Day's'

Here is a taste:

Also since were are talking just general here and not modern, it is super odd to me that not one person has brought up good old classical music. Talk about 'Mind Manifesting'. Do yourself a favor and go to your local library, which probably has a decent collection, and get some of the greats. I've only in the last year finally took the time to build up my collection and I am so glad I finally got off my ass and did so.

The great symphonies are amazing of course, but I am finding myself really into Chamber music and can not recommend Franz Shubert's "Quintet in C, D 956" highly enough. His chamber music is like a mini symphony. I haven't found a great recording on You tube really. I have 3 different versions personally. My first and probably Still favorite is the Emerson String quartet with Rostapovich on the 2nd Cello. I'm simply amazed at this stuff.

Here is just the first movement.

Here are three links that are purely acoustic, not sure if they qualify as psychedelic but they sure sound great when you're tripping Smile

Yeah, Schubert's chamber music is great. I think he really paved the way for many modern chamber works.

If you want classical music a little more blatant in regards to psychedelia, Alexander Scriabin is the way to go:

And don't forget Stravinsky. The Rite of Spring incited a riot in 1913:

Prince Rama are among my favourite discoveries this year. I'm not going to even attempt to put their sound into words - just listen.

Raghupati
Lightening Fossil

Lamp Of the Universe are another thoroughly splendid psychedelic act producing some beautifully uplifting and heartfelt music...

Lotus of a Thousand Petals
Give Yourself To Love

And there are many more excellent indie acts drawing influence from eastern musical traditions, often blending exotic instruments and ethnic styles with the electronic sounds of trance and ambient. To wit:

Neokarma Jookloo Trio - Strange Land
Pelt - Ayahuasca: True Vine
Death Chants - Ascent By Silver Blood

Sometimes I believe that this less material life is our truer life, and that our vain presence on the terraqueous globe is itself the secondary or merely virtual phenomenon.

anyone interested into extreme industrial genres like rhythmic noise, power electronics?

Great stuff! particularly Hexentanz who I'd never heard before.

I've been a dedicated collector of Dark Ambient acts for a while now. My main taste is toward what is sometimes called "deep" ambient: dense, powerful tones which seem to emanate from the core of alien worlds (early Lustmord for example). I find these sounds alone lend themselves to shaping hallucinatory landscapes in the imagination, and the trips they induced were handy training for my first psychedelic experiences.

Sleep Research Facility - Dead Weather Machine
R|A|A|N - Passage Nacrastan/The Atuvvi Culmination
Lingua Fungi - God On A Raft Of Serpents
Sometimes I believe that this less material life is our truer life, and that our vain presence on the terraqueous globe is itself the secondary or merely virtual phenomenon.

This has a very old school 60's psychedelic/pulp fiction vibe to it aswell, it has a bit of electric piano, but apart from that its guitars & drums.

Please give this video of Queen back in the day a watch. This was in 1977 and was entire pre-digital. No synthesizers, no digital effects, it's purely analogue and one of the trippiest things I've ever heard. Yes, I know Freddie is dressed pretty....strangely....please don't let that influence your experience of the music. I beg you to watch the entire video, but the real trippy part starts at around 6'20".

Also if you're looking for some folk music, give Tommy Emmanuel a try.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpxrnvpiU-Y

Here's a trippy one from him too. Entirely acoustic guitar with delay and lots of feedback.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfKnn2iYP70

But really listen to that Queen. You wouldn't believe what you'd be missing by not watching it in its entirety.
