Check out Mogwai for some really great instrumental psychedelic indy rock. Come On Die Young is my favorite album of theirs...The Legendary Pink Dots are another really great band, I'm surprised no-ones mentioned them. I find Justin Beiber really trips me out as well

You are speaking my language. Pink Dots and Tear Garden are two of my all time favorites. The Dot's can be a little intimdating to a new comer since they have so many albums and the can sound so different. I'm a collector and just grab em all, but that could back fire on a first timer.

For dots for a first timer I would probably just have them grab the Collection "Cantas Mientras Puedas" which covers a lot of the period that I really enjoyed.

On the Mogwai front, Explosions in the sky has a great similar vibe. Was just posting something in another thread, and I saw this thread and it applies here too.

Also since were are talking just general here and not modern, it is super odd to me that not one person has brought up good old classical music. Talk about 'Mind Manifesting'. Do yourself a favor and go to your local library, which probably has a decent collection, and get some of the greats. I've only in the last year finally took the time to build up my collection and I am so glad I finally got off my ass and did so.

The great symphonies are amazing of course, but I am finding myself really into Chamber music and can not recommend Franz Shubert's "Quintet in C, D 956" highly enough. His chamber music is like a mini symphony. I haven't found a great recording on You tube really. I have 3 different versions personally. My first and probably Still favorite is the Emerson String quartet with Rostapovich on the 2nd Cello. I'm simply amazed at this stuff.

Yeah, Schubert's chamber music is great. I think he really paved the way for many modern chamber works.

If you want classical music a little more blatant in regards to psychedelia, Alexander Scriabin is the way to go:

I've been a dedicated collector of Dark Ambient acts for a while now. My main taste is toward what is sometimes called "deep" ambient: dense, powerful tones which seem to emanate from the core of alien worlds (early Lustmord for example). I find these sounds alone lend themselves to shaping hallucinatory landscapes in the imagination, and the trips they induced were handy training for my first psychedelic experiences.

I have a cd of different songbirds singing...CAN be lovely. it goes nice for Alfrendo when he takes opiates and listens to it while lying down.

This has a very old school 60's psychedelic/pulp fiction vibe to it aswell, it has a bit of electric piano, but apart from that its guitars & drums.

Please give this video of Queen back in the day a watch. This was in 1977 and was entire pre-digital. No synthesizers, no digital effects, it's purely analogue and one of the trippiest things I've ever heard. Yes, I know Freddie is dressed pretty....strangely....please don't let that influence your experience of the music. I beg you to watch the entire video, but the real trippy part starts at around 6'20".
