I've recently started to invest the time and energy into extracting spice for my first journey. I've ordered bark from a quality vendor. As I await it's arrival, I've decided to make the best of this time, and to start gathering ingredients. After a little shopping, I've found everything I need except for a quality source of lye. Can anyone recommend the best, readily available alternative? I have plenty of pool ph+ (sodium carbonate?) laying around.

I plan on using a STB tek, and perhaps freeze precipitate.

calcium hydroxide Wut?

Posts made by me are either fictional or false, or both. I do not endorse, condone or engage in illegal activities. I love the state, my big brother. "I" myself am fictional. I am a collection of individuals, that are not entirely human. "I" do not exist in reality. Any resemblance to an individual bound by laws is merely coincidental. I lie and tell very little of the truth; do not believe me, and, especially, don't hold "me" accountable for any posts.

This might help...

I've heard that to move actives from bark to naptha lye is necessary, but if you are using another more polar solvent a relatively weaker base may work.

Trisodium phosphate got my attention recently, I wonder if it would work better than lime in some situations? It's strong enough to hydrolyze oils...
