Came across this nice size patch while I was out walking the dog today. There are lots of pins around it. I should be able to get quite a few off the patch in the next couple of weeks! This is just what I wanted for Halloween. I love this time of year! Ice House attached the following image(s): DSC00183.JPG (842kb) downloaded 871 time(s). Those look fantastic!! But are you sure they aren't P.Azurescens? P. Cyanescens generally have wavy caps, no? If they are azures, you're even luckier... Nice find regardless (i am trying to mask my raging envy... ) JBArk JBArk is a Mandelthought; a non-fiction character in a drama of his own design he calls "LIFE" who partakes in consciousness expanding activities and substances; he should in no way be confused with SWIM, who is an eminently data-mineable and prolific character who has somehow convinced himself the target he wears on his forehead is actually a shield.

As for exact location, I believe oregon, washington and as olympus mon said, generally the pacific northwest. Nice find regardless (i am trying to mask my raging envy... ) JBArk Yes I am positive on the ID. They are definately Cyans. The are very young yet. Not ready to be picked for a couple days yet. The cap will become more wavy with time and will become a bit darker carmel color also. The season has come on late. It was a very dry autum up here in the PNW. Better late than never I say! Wow, nice. And props on waiting for them to mature, too many people will just rip up everything they see. =( This is the time of year that I usually start scouting for patches to come back to. I feel like I've even begun to recognize the smell of a good cyan patch. Unfortunately a lot of slugs are eagerly munching many of the young caps. Does anyone know of a way to dissuade the slugs from entering the area? I had some one suggest laying a thin copper wire around the patch. Does that sound like a good idea? These aren't the droids you're looking for.

What a difference few days makes! Most of em doubled in size, left all the small ones so they could get bigger. Plenty of good sized ones for the halloween festivities. Notice the bluing on the caps and stems. It's been a year since I have had some fresh cyans. It's like I can feel em already! I'm gonna go ahead and bring this thread back to life, since cyan hunting is how I met my brother Ice House, and since it's that time of year again. I've been out looking and last weekend I was starting to see a few pins in some Seattle spots where I knew there were small patches. I was hopeful... semios attached the following image(s): Screen shot 2012-11-09 at 7.31.52 PM.png (176kb) downloaded 430 time(s).

Sure enough, I checked the Ice House/Semios patch nearby and although the main patch was not fruiting, last year I had moved a bunch of mycelium, and flagged the spot. And they were up! Right on time! (This patch is so private nobody would find that flag in a million years) I picked a dozen of the biggest ones, but left all the rest, which had caps the size of quarters, to grow another week. semios attached the following image(s): Screen shot 2012-11-09 at 7.34.37 PM.png (337kb) downloaded 484 time(s).
