In order to be able to judge this piece of music for what it's worth, you would have to realise in what time it was written.

If you compare stonehenge with the tallest skyscraper in dubai, stonehenge will look bleak untill you realise how old it is and what tools and knowledge the people had who constructed it.

If you cannot put this piece of music in a historic perspective you will never be able to apriciate it. Just like if there still is a human civilisation in 200 years from now, people then will look down at us and everything we do and say, like on this forum, if they won't realise that we didn't have the intradimensional hypernet yet, like they do.

It's sad maybe that the greatest achievements of mankind will at some day look boring and uninspired in the eyes of our uneducated ofspring.
But that's just the way it is.

Anyway: all music you know originated here:

I'll have to add: bach is the major pioneers of polyphonic music, written in 'constructed' tonal systems, other than the natural tone systems.
He used the so-called 'well-tempered' tone system, wich is the predecessor of the current 'equal-tempered' tonal system.

Stuff that's written in the well-tempered system can be played in the current equal tempered system without adjustments in notation, it just sounds slightly different.

Without the inventions of these tonal systems, all music would sound totally different and complex polyphony would be virtually impossible.
Without the constructed tonal systems, modulation would be impossible.

This music in that sense preceeds all music that exists of complex polyphony and modulations.

Without bach, charlie parker would certainly not have played like he did and we would have never heard of the beach boys or the beatles.

Also you have to realise that stonehenge and the trade tower in dubai both exist in the cosmic moment of now.
Thanks for the bach blurbé Smile
