Thank you so much for posting this. Absolutely hilarious. If I had more time I'd post some of my favorite quotes.

Are we absolutely certain this is not satire?

I had to research it... I mean, I know people can be extremely stupid, and I personally think the world is absolutely f-ing insane, but this is indeed way too far... It seems like you were right ms_manic_minxx, according to a New York Times article it is actually satire:

Quote:
Oh, by the way: ChristWire is all one big joke.

Not the readership — which hit a high of 27 million page views in August — but the content, the opinions and the fake authors who write the stuff. (There is no “Stephenson Billings.”) Neither of the two founders is a conservative Christian. They are just like-minded 28-year-olds who met on the Internet, have never seen each other in person, and until this week had never given their real identities to a reporter.

Bryan Butvidas is a software developer who works out of his house in Southern California. Kirwin Watson is a former Pepperdine student who moved back home to Kansas, where he now works “on the patient-care staff” of a local hospital. According to phone interviews with both men, they met online in 2005, when both were contributing to the news aggregator Shoutwire.com.

Phew, I'm glad I could regain some faith in humanity...

It just sort of reminded me of how I might have to rehearse some lines if I were to go to my Catholic high school reunion and people started talking about drugs. Pleased

What? In Europe people is getting less religious by the day. Maybe most people still get baptized and that shit (only in traditionally Catholic countries anyway), but on Sundays most in church are old people. Protests on the cost of the visit of the Pope occurred on the UK, France, Spain... something that hardly could happen 20 years ago.

There are less nuns and monks, so many less there are monasteries closing, and most of the new people there are immigrants. No local wants to live that way.

Also, Merkel stated that immigrant muslims in Germany have to follow the German values represented in the Civil Law and not the Shariah, and that those that don't like it that way already know where the door is. Only tangentially said something about Germany being a country with Christian tradition.

I don't know where your facts come from, but they're heavily skewed.

(of course we're all taking into consideration that generalizations about such a wide, diverse area are, well, generalizations)

I think you have a good point about age differences. While there are large tracts of the US that are hardly religious at all, in the parts of the US which are still strongly religious, the conservative religious movements are still kept strong by young people. From my experiences in Catholic Europe, the youth are NOT on the same page as the older generations, and it is the older generations who are perpetuating the conservativism.

Chancellor Angela Merkel said at the weekend, calling on the country’s immigrants to learn German and adopt Christian values .

“Our society lives on premises that it cannot create by itself. Without a doubt, one of these very important premises is Christianity. Christianity has shaped our country … I’m not saying we could not have arrived where we are in any other way, but here in Germany it’s very clear that we came to our values system through Christianity. That means we know that freedom does not mean freedom from something, but it means freedom given by God through His Creation to commit oneself to help others and stand up for causes. This may be the most important source of social cohesion.”

"This approach has failed, totally," she said, adding that immigrants should integrate and adopt Germany's culture and values.
"We feel tied to Christian values. Those who don't accept them don't have a place here," said the chancellor.

From my experience living in a very catholic family in France I can see that there are indeed less and less young people who go to the church every sunday BUT the catholic
minority (we can certainly call it that since only 5% of the population goes to church every sunday) is leaning more and more toward integrism.
It is not surprising since nowadays very few french people feel the need to go to church just for the sake of appearances and so those who still go to church regularly
are usually hard core catholics.

hmmm, pretty interesting site! I think it was the pictures of pretty teenage girls ripping hits from bongs that gave it away! I'm not sure what the site is seeking to achieve though? Satire is one thing, but this just looks like a site which has the specific intent of trolling. Most of the comments under articles are negative, and the authors keep replying with the intent of provoking reaction.

If these comments are anything to go by, then no-one is fooled for long. I suspect very few people hold views similar to those expressed on this site, and these guys should find something more constructive to do with their talents than winding up the naive!

I actually think this is quite far form the truth! if our earth consisted of more people like his we wouldn't get all this bullshit happening 24/7 !

Some people should just except that people have cultures and live there lives round them

(i'm sure the author would be super pissed if all those hippys turned into meth heads scrolling the streets)

That was really fun, but enough now! The time has now come to break the news on ya folks,- this was written by Hippies after all. It is satire all the way through, none of it is real. HAHAHA

So how is that diferent now from reading some bible text and gettting all charged up over it without doing some research of your own? How easy it is to believe something you want to believe to begin with, with nothinhg more but a rumor as a base?
Goes to show you how gullible these hippies actually are Pleased

Please stop masturbating on american flags and sending them to Christwire, they must be rolling on the floor laughing, I am sure. I would.

I had a feeling..most of those articles on Christwire are really out there, and a lil absurd.
So I did some more research since yesterday, and revealed the mystery:
http://nymag.com/daily/i.../2010/09/christwire.html
http://www.nytimes.com/2.../09/04/us/04beliefs.html

What the moral of this story?
'Don't believe the internet!'
Just don't

Who are these enlightening positivists?
The people that founded my country (the United States of America) were nothing more than white male illegal traders and slave owners who were sick of having their money stolen by the government. Enlightened positivists indeed...Rolling eyes

It's kinda sad when those slaveowners and criminals call the US 'their' country, given by god himself. It's gone downhill here since they arrived. They certainly haven't improved anything, only exploited it for all its worth.
Christwire had most of us fooled for a moment, mostly because we have heard all this in a toned down version elsewhere. How easy that is, ha? Mindblowing like DiMiTri ...
Well I guess this is finished here, but do not fret, I got some more real hilarious Hippie-ragging in the oven! Will post as a new topic soon!

Well, ancient greeks also supported slavery and one could argue that today's middle class citizens are the slave of yesterday, I of course do not support any kind
of slavery but still, even if Jefferson and other founding fathers owned slaves they proved to be quite avant gardiste when they stated in the treaty of tripoli (1796) :

"Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen,—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
"

I honestly wonder what they would have to say regarding the current state of the usa.
