guys, i've been watching this discovery series and its absolutely mind blowing! D_Juggz mentioned this pragram a while ago, and man am i glad i watched it. it talks about what the future will look like in the forthcoming years.. some very fascinating stuff. Here's a link to the torrent: Next World download all six parts for the entire series; or just download one, and see how you like it. i got hooked on this shit in the first 5min. Ties in perfectly with McKenna's theory of ever complexifying technology, and our world

Not to be a downer, but I don't find this interesting. It presents an naive view of the future reminiscent of mid-20th century modern optimism, it neglects to discuss any implementation issues which are really the crux of these types of "new" developments, and it is devoid of any critical thinking. It's a collection of sci-fi ideas with no story to back it up, and not much more content than a kid's daydream.

But don't let me stop you from enjoying it Smile

yes i understand what you mean Shayku, and clouds about some of it being impractical, and ignoring the real issues that are currently surrounding us. for ex, there's this one where a guy is making cars out of wood, and expects people to drive wood cars. it is much better and efficient, but its already so saddening to see the beautiful tress get cut down, especially in the Amazon, that it would be shattering to see this rate of devastation increase. To see the world get fucked up within capitalist interests of similar sorts ignores the core issues like first saving the trees, re-establishing forests, and focusing more on the natural aspects, rather than "artificial" and mechanical.

However, at the same time, i loved to see the technological advancements that are exploding in their potential. McKenna proposed that we may evolve into some type of hyperdimensional beings through our technology, and considering the current rate of advancements, this seems plausible..but ofcourse trees need to be saved first before that happens. McKenna also proposed how the brains of humans have stopped evolving in the conventional manner due to the lack of evolutionary pressures. Our brains are now "culturally evolving" as all our minds get hooked up to this global cultural system through the vast array of technologies and media. and this documentary makes that very apparent. "Yesterday's science-fiction is today's fact."

This car must be a helluva flappy-noisy when you take it out to the motorway. Fabric and car's don't mix!

"Yesterday's science-fiction is today's fact."

I'll watch part II after I finally get that jetpack, not before. Smile

I'd like to see a documentary that takes the opposite approach : What will the world be like when wars start over the generalized depletion of resources, and after these wars cost us every last final bit of resource and dignity we have? What will the opposite of progress look like? "Ooooo, canibalism! Sweet! I can't wait for the year 2200!"

edit: please note that I am tired, sarcastic and possibly under the influence of naptha fumes
