would using a typical a/b with vinegar and sodium carbonate, following a typical guide like one used with spice, work?
the pkb of caffeine is higher than dmt (about 10-12), so does this mean a stronger base is needed to make caffeine soluble in the non polar (naphtha)?

i'll post an organic lab pdf, if i can find it dcm is the solvent which best extracts caffeine, not naptha. "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal. The rest is poetry, imagination." -Max Planck

i've read the stuff online such as the pdf. i'm going to skip the acid part since its soluble enough in water without acid.
how can i figure out how soluble caffeine is in naphtha? it is the only solvent i'll have on hand.

hmm, i read the xlogp of caffeine is -0.5 and naphtha being around 4, would make it a poor solvent to use. i could pick up some MEK since its almost right on with caffeine but eh its expensive. this extraction doesn't have to be perfect.
so, is it possible to get some using naphtha or will the caffeine stay in the basified aqueous?

you may get some if you heat it, but naptha really isn't the solvent for this. need something slightly polar. chloroform or dcm, ideally. xylene should do it.. but it takes a while to evaporate "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal. Now this is truly for the love of the science I have 1kg of caffiene on my shelf and I think it was $50-$100. Good luck Memory, prophecy and fantasy -the past, the future and the dreaming moment between - are all in one country, living one immortal day. To know that is Wisdom. To use it is the Art.

No point. Try pure therobomine or chocomine. WARNING: DO NOT INGEST ANY BOTANICAL WHICH YOU HAVE NOT FULLY RESEARCHED AND CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED!!!I am Teotzlcoatl, older cousin of Quetzalcoatl. no point in commenting about my motives, i do love science there is a hidden reason though innocent but cant mention publicly. yea i'd love to use acetone for a nice quick evap but cant figure out how i'd separate the layers out. lots of salt? i just have very basic tools like turkey baster, crockpot. the only cool lab thing i have is a vacuum pump filter.

it's good practice. like I said, it's textbook organic lab. sodium carbonate to basify, methylene chloride to extract. 'tis a good solvent to have on the shelf, along with denatured ethanol. cold acetone is good for washing "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal.
