I'm interesed in finding out more about these animals that produce hallucinations.

I recently found out about a species of bream called sarpa salpa that are highly psychedelic sometimes and not others. Scientists think they must eat a form of plancton or algae that renders them psychedelic.
Romans eat them recreationally, others were the victoms of unexpected auditory and visually hallucinations.

I'm sure the psychoactivity is down to tryptamines.

I also remember reading of a rare bird that was psychedelic.. but was later discovered they eat a type of beatle that is laced with more tryptamines. Somehow the bird was imune?

anyone know more about these and any other animals?

would be much obliged Smile

Teozocoatl posted a guide to psychoactive animals when he was on another site a while back. I have it saved somewhere so I'll try to dig it up.

Not to repeat things , but as I mentioned on another post about Iboga, The Fang and the related tribes of Gabon , Africa who have used Iboga in ritual for centuries learned about its psychedelic properties while watching the wild boars dig up and ingest the roots.

so, maybe a long shot but perhaps doing some research on the FANG tribe and their use of Iboga and perhaps their taste for wild boar may lead to some insights. The Fang are a fairly well documented tribe because of their use of ritual idols for ancestor worship which included Iboga ceremony.

Good luck, it is a fascinating topic , though Im at a loss for where else to suggest looking... other then toad licking.
Obviously everything the Shaman says is Hyperspace Hyperbole
