I love Tool. I listen to them quite often on pharma. I just saw them live in Seattle. It was an Epic experience.

yeah, they are really incredible!

I found out about them quite recently thanks to people from the Nexus. I had heard about them often before but had never given a listen. Then I listened for the first time on acid and was completely blown away!

Since then, with some exceptions of course, I tried 'saved' their cd for listening mostly when Im tripping (amazing on pharma!), preventing myself from overlistening during daily life. I find it incredibly deep, psychedelic, spiritual and down to earth at the same time. I specially love lateralus, but also 10,000 days and most of aenima (except for some tracks like this weird one about satan's eggs, lol)

Im sure you know, but the song rosetta stoned is about dmt, of course

Quote:
It was so real. Like I woke up in wonderland.
all sorta terrifying. I don't wanna be alone while I tell this story.
And can anyone tell me why y'all sound like peanuts parents?
Will I ever be coming down?
This is so real. Finally it's my lucky day
See, my heart is racing cuz this shit never happens to me.
Can't breathe right now.

You believe me don't you? Please believe what I've just said.
see, the dead ain't touring and this wasn't all in my head.
see they took me by the hand and invited me right in. then they showed me something.
I don't even know where to begin.

Strapped down to my bed, feet cold and eyes red.
I'm out of my head am I alive? Am I dead.
Can't remember what they said. God damn. Shit the bed.
Overwhelmed as one would be placed in my position...
Such a heavy burden now to be the one
Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending.
to write it down for all the world to see.
But I forgot my pen. Shit the bed again. Typical.

My main playlist consists of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Rammstein, and Shpongle. They are a great band.

I don't think I've ever heard a male vocalist quite like Maynard. Someone once described his voice as "tragic" and I'd have to agree with them. Beautiful but tragic.

tool is the only band i listen to!!
i never knew from objective knowledge until later that they were trippers.
one time i was listening to lateralus on mushrooms and i thought, "wait a minute!!! all their songs are about tripping!!!"
since then i've verified in a thousand way both intuitively and outwardly that this is so.
funny, i had the intuition that rosetta stoned was about DMT too but had no "proof"!!!!

Ha, myself as well. It was my first time with acid as well, I believe.

It was lateralus, which at the time I was positive was referencing lsd, but now I'm not so sure. I think acid is the common interpretation, but some of these phrases seem more DMT oriented.

Quote:
Feed my will to feel this moment, urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

...

With my feet upon the ground,
I move myself between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out.
I'm reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me,
whatever will bewilder me.

I only know I see more spirals with DMT than with LSD. And definitely more of that "random." Smile

well to be honest I dont necessarily find that they are talking strictly about a psychedelic trip in this or most other songs (except specifically lost keys-blame hofmann and rosetta stoned), but rather more like, realizations about life and existence that are universal, though of course can have come during a psychedelic experience and reflect it in many ways. Also, I think their songs are never just one or another specific reference but rather quite open ended with many meanings behind it. Who knows though, thats just my take on it.

but yeah, regardless, its all awesome and psychedelic Very happy

I listen to tool quite a bit...although I find %90 of their music way too overbearing to listen too while with DMT ( i do have one playlist with all the more-mellow stuff though)

It seems to me that these guys (tool) have explored different states of being, but to say that any one song is about one thing goes against how I feel about their music.

Rosetta stoned covers everything from LSD, X and DMT to Sunkist oranges and sudafed..(common remedies for the stuffed up snothead feeling you get after a night of brain pounding) not to mention all the rips on pop culture and alien abduction.

The one thing I love most about there music is that when I listen to their older music I get different meanings from those I thought when I was younger. I imagine that I will take something different from them again when I'm 50.

Certainly, without a doubt, I believe that these guys have experienced DMT and that its influence can be heard in the music and lyrics. However, I do not think that rosetta stoned is about a profound DMT trip.

I think its a funny story about a guy who gets whacked out on whatever (the song mentions many drugs) and has either a close encounter or a massive hallucination experience. He is trying to tell the doctor (from the intro) what happened. But, after a lengthy (and comical) narrative, he is unable to recall the 1 message that the "aliens" conveyed to him to pass along .... He blew it or "shit the bed again"

Anyhow...thats what I take from it now. I think about the aliens.... and how frustrating it would be to pick a guy up with hopes to send a message to the people of earth...and the guy is so whacked out that he misses the point entirely.

interesting take on it Smile

I also agree that the songs are about so many things and not just one or another specific subject, but this rosetta stoned strikes me sooooooo much as a dmt trip, its an unbelievably accurate description.. Like the part I quoted, its so many exact elements of dmt trip that its hard to think its not specifically about DMT. Personally I see no connection at all between the song and X or LSD (even having taking it in very large doses, the description still doesnt fit it at all.. The only thing I see about X is the letter "x" in the beginning of the song, nothing else, and of lsd, the only connection is that this song is introduced by the 'blame hofmann' song, but nothing else in the lyrics that even remotely make me think)

not that it matters though, either way its all great music, but since this is a tool topic I think the discussion fits Smile

I'm convinced that rosetta stoned is about dmt. But, music can be interpreted in many ways.

well ther is one line:

Quote:
so light in his way, like an apparition, that he had me crying out...
"fuck me! It's gotta be the dead head chemistry. (the) blotter got right on top o' me. Got me seeing E mutha fuckin T!

That totally says lsd to me Smile

I had never really thought of X either...but when I heard it in the lyrics I figured..eh maybe.

edit: started writing this reply well before I actually hit "post" someone already said the same.

People like tool too much.

Don't get me wrong, individual tracks they have done have been way up there with the best of them, but for some reason I can never listen to one of their albums from start to finish.

Great live though.
