I am starting an experiment which involves the combination of Salvia quid combined with various Essential Oils.

Each day, starting Friday, I will take one different essential oil, with a 2g salvia quid.

The oils I am planning to use so far (but not limited too):

Clary Sage (increases blood pressure, could be dangerous with SD... any thoughts?)
Petitgrain
Neroli
Bergamot
Geranium
White Sage
Spanish Sage
Peppermint

If you have any other oils that you are curious about potential synergistic properties, please share, and I will pursue it.

If you are interested in this experiment, watch this thread, and I will update every day starting next friday.

good energy to all,
maxzar

Are you familiar with each of the individual oils?

Geranium extract is a stimulant and it doesn't take a whole lot to get very unpleasant side effects or hangover. Look up dimethylamylamine, there's some posts on BL which basically say much more than a small dose is very unpleasant. If high blood pressure isn't a good idea with SD, steer clear or RESEARCH and use EXTREME CAUTION.

In general I would suggest waiting some time (a week?) between each trial to let your system eliminate residue from each oil, but really I don't know anything about the half life of the actives in those oils. You could set up your time between based on whatever info you can dig up on that.

Might as well throw some Elemi oil on the list.

Interested in results Smile

I know that geranium oil can be unpleasent, but I am planning on using small amounts. As for the petitgrain, I have worked with it frequently, and know that I can take a lot of it without ill effects, besides perhaps a bit of digestion. The clary sage is said to increase blood pressure a little bit in some cases, so I will proceed with caution.

I will try with the elemi oil, maybe I will extract the key alkaloid with dmso.

maxzar100, I'm excited to see the possible interactions. You never know when a new fantastic combination will be found until you try it. There are boundless possibilities here. Essential oils are often overlooked. They are a great resource for the herbalist.

Just recently I got a free sample of clove leaf oil from one of the vendors I buy from all the time. This stuff is great for toothaches! And cheap too. Its cheaper than the tooth ache relief medicine they sell at the local pharmacy and its even more effective. I tried it diluted on a canker sore (it's too potent to put undiluted) and it works great. It contains eugenol.

There are so many hidden treasures in the oils. It's amazing. One compound present in a lot of essential oils is myrcene. This compound can potentiate the effects of marijuana and many other psychoactive herbs. Marijuana actually contains myrcene, which is a critical competent to the high you get from smoking marijuana. It's not just THC that makes you high, myrcene plays a big role, but it's often overlooked.

I wonder just how many hidden treasures there are in these oils. I got interested in them from elemi oil, and now I find myself like a kid discovering a whole new area of medicine. How it is I only recently discovered essential oils is amazing. It all stems from researching sassafras. It's strange how one thing leads to another. Anyway, I hope you have some great success and please let us know how it goes!

This sounds great and it will be interesting to follow. The only thing I can point out is Salvia is said to have reverse tolerance effects.

I have noticed a reverse tolerance build up even when waiting a few days in between. You may find the effects growing stronger each day. I'm sure if you already had a tolerance built up then it would be less noticeable.

Cheers and good luck.

There are some things you would never think would potentiate the effects of psychedelics, but when put to the test, they do. Eugenol is one such drug. This is in a lot of essential oils.

On it's own eugenol not interesting, but when taken with psychedelics it increases the visuals and adds a new dimension to the trip. This is one of the things present in nutmeg which helps boost the psychoactive effects of myristicin and elemicin. It only takes a little bit, just a few drops.

Note particularly wanting to dig up an old topic but SWIM was going to do experiments similar to the OP.

SWIM was wondering if the OP ever did record any significant results or any results for that matter??

SWIM is going to be trying it with myrrh essential oil. From what SWIM thinks, the Salvia will "potentate" the Myrrh but not the other way around Confused How this would work (in theory) is that Salvia is a potent kappa agonist, which helps reduce the dependence of delta and mu opiates. Might just "increase" myrrh (which is a delta agonist) but might have some strange interaction with the salvia?? Razz

Looking into it more first though, then SWIM will approach it slowly.

EDIT:

So AFOAF tried this and wanted SWIM to post their results

AFOAF wrote:

1 gram of salvia
3 drops of myrrh essential oil
S = Salvia time
M = Myrrh time

salvia held in mouth for 30 mins, swallow saliva once

S+25
Start to notice a light salvia-like feeling in my head. A mild spacy feeling. I notice this
everytime when dosing salvia and getting ready to meditate on a smaller dose

S+30
Spit salvia out and wash mouth out of remaining leave bits. Dont brush teeth or use
mouthwash, just water

S+33 M+0
3 drops of myrrh essential oil. 3 drops will usually produce a mild spacy feeling.

S+43 M+10
Notice a more pronounced, but very mild salvia-wood-jaw effect. On higher doses with quid, 3 grams plus, it feels like a light protruding of my jaw bones that make me, for some reason, feel a tree is gonna sprout out the side of my face. Very mild, probably around the same effects gotten from 1-2 grams, as far as the jaw... still evaluating.

S+63 M+30
Sadly it doesn't seem like much potenation at all for salvia. Roughly the same effects with/without mryyh in the picture. The mryyh dose seem to have a "cleaner" effect. Doesn't seem to have the typical myrrh cloudy thoughts, only salvia spacy thoughts. (Note: two different thoughts... cloudy is when hard to think and cocentrate. Spacy is when easy to think, lots of tangents, but still hard to concentrate... daydreaming with thoughts)

S+83 M+50
Nothing else interesting. Pretty much back to baseline. Overall NO potenation or great synergy.

Well hopefully SWIM will eventually get a response from the OP with more results from their AFOAF

First off, I would add the oil to your mouth when you put the quid in. Putting the oil in after is not an effective method, because the oil will take time to digest/absorb (in mouth).

My experiments with petit grain and salvia quid proved somewhat successful: I found that if I ingested the petitgrain on an empty stomach about 15 minuets before starting to chew the quid, the euphoria that I usually feel (as well as antidepressant effects) lasted a couple hours longer (usually just about an hour with plain quid)

Also, some oils will not absorb that well through the mouth, so it will take some experimentation
