Today the Love Parade took place in Düsseldorf, Germany. Millions of people gathered for the Love fest. When tousands of people tried to access the parade through a tunnel, mass hysteria broke out...at least 15 people died and over a 100 people suffered severe injuries.Sad
My thoughts are with those who lost friends and family. This just makes me sad.
I visited the parade last year and was dissapointed cause of the organization. Just too much people, not enough trains to get there, chaos... The organisators just did not learn from it.
Sad sad sad

I see the death toll is up to 19 now, with 80 injured. This is a very sad thing to happen. Thoughts and love to those who lost friends and family.

I really can not imagine, why such things can not be foreseen. I really like to send the responsible individuals to court!

So so sad and tragic... my heart goes out to all the victims families... Life can be gone in but an instant, sometimes we forget how fragile and impermanent we are.

A tragic loss, I can't imagine how this must weigh on everyone involved.

Then it must make you really sad that in Iraq they're blowing up tens of people almost every day.
Of course this is all sad but it's weird how we pick these things that happen in western society and look at them in a different way. Like it's more a loss if someone from Europe dies than someone in other parts of the world.

For me, the irony that a celebration of life and love turns to panic and death made this event notable and shocking. The sadness of Iraq does bear heavily, as well as the continuing issues in Haiti and the recent earthquakes in the Philippines.

Off course that makes me sad DMTripper. But this post is not about the contstant horror going on in the world, it's about the Love Parade drama. Off course it's not more of a loss when someone out of the Western world dies, it's just that the Love parade doesn't happen to be a war zone or a third world country...you just don't expect this happening.

This is a fair point to raise, but I don't think it is more or less of a loss, and to infer that the OP thinks that is a little unfair. Things like this are just "closer to home", and easier to relate to. In the same way you wouldn't think twice about someone from the other side of your country who got run over, but if it happened on your street you would talk about it for months.

I was just pointing out how numb we have become for the horror happening there in Iraq and many other places in the world. It's sometimes like we forgot all about it.

Seeing as there are literally millions of people around the globe killing each other in online simulations at any given time, I hardly consider this a mind-shattering revelation. Yes, people are numb to violence and death, but this is the world we live in. All you can do is show compassion, respect, and love to those who you encounter throughout your life. Beyond that, it's not really in your control. "Be the change..." and all that good stuff Wink

I have the feeling that danceparty disasters are increasing more and more. It's a matter of time before the next big tragedy and maybe at some point a total ban on danceparties.

It's very sad.

Big events are a bad idea and just more trouble than they are worth in general.

It's all about smaller more initimate parties where everyone can keep their eye on everyone else.

Totaly agree on that one...

I think at the end, the success of a party can become it's own death in a sense that it becomes way too big and commercial.

But when the Love parade used to be in Berlin, it was almost as big as now and there where no dramatic incidents. It's all about organisation and choosing the right place for such mega events.

Yes, ridiculous. And ironic. I want to call them idiots. Mindless, panicking freaks. But it's instinct. Can't be helped. Shame.
