Is LSD really tasteless?
Every time I have had LSD I got this metallic taste in my mouth and I can feel this taste come back when I
hit a "peak" and it disappears in the "valley" of the trip.
My lsd have come from several different sources.
Other people also say they have the same sensation.
It's a very distinct taste (coin-ish?) and not bitter like some other chemicals can be.

I remember reading somewhere that it's a chemical reaction that happens on your tounge. (Doesn't really
explain that it comes back as the trip "rolls" though...or does it?)
As a follow up to that I remember reading that it might be a taste that not every body can taste.

Another explanation I have read is that it's byproducts or similar stuff left over from the cooking.

So do other people taste this?
What's the explanation?

Personally I've never tasted anything at all from LSD, both blotters and liquid. I haven't really tried to taste, but I am pretty sure I would have noticed it! I guess it may be that not everybody can taste it.

Yes, I know the taste, but I've only had it from blotter paper (and in this case I tasted it consistently each time I had a bit), and it was coin-ish, just like you say. I haven't gotten that taste off of windowpane or sugarcubes - the only time I've had a sugarcube it was freshly dropped from a vial of dissolved acid, and the two times I've had windowpane/gelatin it was freshly made from crystalline acid. These two sources were relatively direct, whereas the blotter came through a bit less reputable of a source, and I suspect ultimately came from a less pure beginning product. I tasted nothing but sugar with the sugar cube, and the windowpane on both occasions had no discernible taste. I recall Sasha Shulgin saying that his assistant tasted crystalline Sandoz acid directly, and it was bitter, not tasteless. I assume it's just byproducts/impurities, but have no clue. Have you tasted it on anything other than blotter paper?

Perhaps the ink used on blotter paper is the one responsible for the metallic taste?

I get this taste only with blotters, ink or no ink. Sugar cubes would easily cover up any taste there might be. Coin-ish seems like a good description....I personally find it a very subtle taste, but it is there.

Yes, SWIM can taste it, but its more of a sensation than a taste. It's got an electric feel to it on the tongue. Some people say it's metallic, but it's definitely an electric feel, as if the taste buds are tripping slightly from it, or being shocked slightly from electrical impulses misfiring or something like that. It’s a “taste sensation”, so to speak.

I'm very curious why you would say that? It’s a drug that affects sensations. It’s hallucinogenic. The mild electrical sensation is definitely there for SWIM and others have noticed it and some call it “metallic”. SWIM calls it “electric” as if there's misfiring of nerve impulses occurring from it.

Sorry, i never experienced such an "electric" taste. I never tried LSD also.
Your description made me wonder how it tastes like. It just sounded to me like a crazy description of "taste".
No special meaning to my post.

No problem. It’s hard to describe the taste sensation from it. It’s hard to describe tastes in general.

I can’t think of anything else that has that exact same “electric” taste. Maybe a metal spoon is very slightly similar. I can’t find the words to properly explain its taste sensation. It’s not exactly a flavor, more of an electric sensation for SWIM, not in a shocking way though.

I completely agree with ron. Pure acid does have the 'electric' taste that faintly resembles something metallic. As it touches my body I get goosebumps, like a generalized micro-spasm all over, an electric flash, as if it immediately absorbs and lights up electricity in my whole nervous system.

Later on during the effects, it seems to change the workings of certain glands, including the salival glands, so the consistency of the spit also changes. It is possible to have a kind of 'lingering' electric/metallic taste throughout the trip that is mixed with this different salival consistency, so its a kind of peculiar feeling. I pay a lot of attention to the body signs and feelings, maybe some people just wouldnt notice this.

It shouldnt be bitter, though, bitter acid should mean either some kind of impurity (maybe like evening glory suggested, something related to the ink of the blotter..?), or some substance appart from acid (though I never tried it myself to know, I heard some DOx are bitter)

My very first "LSD" experience was from a piece of blotter and it wasn't bitter. It tasted like... nothing. It had amazing visuals and was kind of "spiritual". Lots of after-images and the music was - the best - thing ever (subjectively). Swimming in the sea was the most amazing feeling of peace and relaxation. This was in Cancun.

My last three or four experiences with what I think was LSD (in blotter) was definitely bitter in the taste and didn't had that "electric feel"... also I felt more paranoid and had trips that weren't spiritual...but rather *sigh* childish and in many ways pathetic. This in Baja / Cabo. Lately I don't even want to experience "LSD papers" again soon. Now I see that why I took probably wasn't LSD in the first place.

I've never noticed any taste whatsoever from both liquid or tab form.
Though I find the consistency of the blotter paper particularly unpleasant to chew :c

Some blotters Ive had have had a slight vaguely metallic taste and others havent. The clear windowpanes which were around in the late 80s were utterly devoid of taste and were good solid tabs.

I have often had an altered sense of taste, again vaguely metallic during the experience itself and some tabs seemed to give more of this than others.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Yes I consistently experience this metallic taste when consuming LSD. Also througout the experience itself, I get a strong metallic taste...tastes like electricity if that makes sense! I remember Shulgin stating that pure LSD does infact taste slighlty bitter, and not tasteless as is oten described, although obviously the quantites consumed are miniscule. Shulgin does seem to know his stuff. Cool

I have mostly had liquid lsd dripped directly on some home-cut thick paper so it's not the ink.
Last time I thought I had been ripped of because I got hold of a sugar cube which
tasted nothing.
About 30min to 1 hour I calmed down because when I started to come up I got that taste on
the back of my tung.
Never got any further then leaving baseline so technically
it was still a rip off.
The acid was really weak and I was prepared for a rocket ride...
but it was nice anyway=)

I definitely agree the taste is metallic and feels electric. Its like the taste and the feeling are the same thing.

However, I get that feeling from a a lot of chemicals that I have ingested(5-meo-amt didn't do that to me though). I only get it from lab chemicals. Shrooms and alike do not ever give me that taste or electric feelings.

ya I agree, for sure bitter/electric/coin-ish I've only had blotter but I can definitely taste it.
