Can psychedelic substances induce physical pain during a trip? Has anyone any experience of this or heard of this happening to anyone? I dread the thought of being in agonising pain for hours and not being able to get out of it. Cheers The trees spoke to me through the wind. The more I listened, the more they spoke.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean, but I ate some nasty mushrooms once. They made my stomach feel worse than ever. I was tripping pretty damn hard at the time aswell and I thought I was going to die from the pain.
Like that?

Eek. Well it's just from what I have read, these substances can induce emotions and sensations that are not 'really there' (trying to avoid a discussion on what is meant by real). For example, your sight sensation of the outside world may be overrided by an internally generated image. So I was wondering if anyone had experienced or heard of the brain generating the sensation of pain as a result of taking psychedelics? Is that any clearer? The trees spoke to me through the wind. The more I listened, the more they spoke.

I've never experienced such a thing that's for sure.
I'm not sure if psychedelics effect the pain centre of the brain the same as they do with sound and site. I've often experienced postive senses of touch, but never anything I'd describe as simulated pain.

Unless you are taking absurdly heroic doses, I highly doubt any phsychological pain will occur. DMT maybe as the only exception, but the time frame is much shorter.
I have never experienced any pain, even during scary breakthroughs, but there is always that guy who got raped by alligators during the Strassman studies. Most likely painful.
Happy thoughts, right?

I've never experienced any physical pain (plenty of nausea mind, particularly with plant teachers ) as a result of taking psychedelics...and never heard of this happening amongst my very experienced pals either. Mental/psychic pain on the other hand...but then that's all part of the learning experience A couple of times I've taken part in ceremonies while injured, and this has usually proven to be a fairly negative experience - the physical pain can be amplified and I've spent an entire night plagued by a dodgy foot which was very distracting. On the other hand - I did sort out a bad back by meditating on shrooms...although I was on my own and more able to fully focus on the pain. Hmmmm - hope that makes some kind of sense!

I introduced DMT to a friend, and she experienced an intense burning sensation over her whole body. This burning sensation led her to decide never to use DMT again. I’ve had moderate headaches during and after a very few experiences. gibran2 is a fictional character. Any resemblance to anyone living or dead is purely coincidental.

I have had headaches after continual use as well, but I always figured it was harmala hangover. Do you get headaches with straight spice? I’ve had moderate headaches during and after a very few experiences. Yep, been there. The spice set me on fire. I felt like burning to ash. Very, very painful!! I also get eye pain quite often. Headaches after vaping: Everytime!

A friend used to get headaches and backaches on LSD until he realized that he could alleviate the symptoms with concentration and positive thinking. It's a good lesson for one's day-to-day affairs as well!

Though I had to really concerntrate to keep it away, but it was possible.

Swim had just finished a new extraction. He went to try this new batch with what he thought was a nice breakthrough dose. This was before he bought a mg scale. He vaped it away and off he went. The next thing he remember was thinking omg whats happening. There's was a burning sensation going through his body like lightning. It was the most terrifying experience of his life. He went through the ego loss, dimensia, fear cycle for a while before finding a happy place. Swim didn't let this experience scare him away from spice and did it again 1 hour later. SWIM has experienced an episode of pain due to not following a diet pre Aya journey. Rolled around on the floor cradling the stomach for a couple hours, boy that did not feel good and the memories of the discomfort comes back pretty vividly the more I think about it. Besides that can't say it's ever been a cause of physical pain. The psychedelics do tend to magnify some discomfort you've carried into the trip in the beginning stages. In most cases it recedes as the trip progresses. The whole burning sensation thing has yet to occur to SWIM so no comment, but does sound painful. >.< The most merciful thing in the world... is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ~H. Yes.
Long ago, SWIM once took 8 ground up HWBR seeds, capped them, and had a few grams of ground up Rue, also capped with them.
SWIM could feel the trip starting 80 minutes after consumption. Vision blurred, and SWIM was then afflicted with terrible nausea. Horrible, horrible nausea in fact. SWIM crawled to the bathroom just in time to violently/painfully vomit a number of times, from the deepest parts of SWIM's stomach. SWIM then laid down on the couch wishing it to end.
7 hours elapsed as SWIM laid on the couch moaning, drifting in and out of consciousness, and suffering fairly horrible stomach pains. SWIM's vision still mostly non-functional. SWIM had 4 friends present, casually watching him as they played a video game. The trip was remarkably non-psychedelic besides suffering from super-mydriasis. At the 7th hour, SWIM retired completely for the night, and was fine the next day.
Easily SWIM's worst experience to date. Felt like SWIM was going to die of poisoning.

I do believe psychedelics can produce the illusion of physical pain, for I have experienced this in a DMT trip gone dark and sour. Although no long lasting effects came from this bad trip, during it I was being beaten by entities while true and pure terror was being pumped into my mind. It was an awful experience that had me crying in the dark for twenty minutes afterward. Do not listen to anything, "Steely" says. He is a made up character that his owner likes to role play with. I am assuming you mean the "illusion" of pain, as referred to by Steely ^^^^^. While I haven't experienced physical pain myself (although intense pharmacologically induced psychological/spiritual/noumenal pain is perhaps indistinguishable from physical pain), I recall reading a salvia report on this site that really struck a cord. This particular salvia smoker was propulsed into a world that was essentially an infinite field of coke cans - and he himself was one of these Coke cans!! (I know, I know... first the middle east, now the Coca-Cola company has tapped into the far reaches, the very antipodes of the mind to advertise!! Have they struck a deal with lady salvia? ) In his description, the coke cans were being crushed by, if I recall, huge plungers jetting in from above, and every once in a while it was his turn to be crushed. He described feeling intense pain, as if it were really happening, feeling the bones collapse and crush within him. Moments later he would uncrumple and become a fully formed can again! Only to await the next crushing in dread. Having no recollection of ever having been anything other than a can, he also felt that this is what he would be eternally - a coke can in a field of crushing coke cans!! If I recall as well, he was that can of coke for 1 full week before coming back to his body... (I apologize to whoever this was if I am in error regarding some of the details. It was a trip report that really struck a chord with me - not the same as my trips, but I think anyone who has gone deep with salvia will be able to to identify, and even imagine this happening to them...) Salvia is STRANGE stuff indeed. Particularly if it allows you to experience, in addition to the anguish of forgetting who you are and becoming an object, true pain, or an illusion so complete that it is indistinguishable from true pain. I know of others who have experienced physical pain after smoking significant quantities of salvia, but not from any other substance. Here's a question though - is it really physical pain if there is no external, physical phenomena causing it? JBArk JBArk is a Mandelthought; a non-fiction character in a drama of his own design he calls "LIFE" who partakes in consciousness expanding activities and substances; he should in no way be confused with SWIM, who is an eminently data-mineable and prolific character who has somehow convinced himself the target he wears on his forehead is actually a shield.

Well that's the thing with what is real and what isn't. For me, if I feel pain, it is real. Whether it is externally stimulated or not, it's still uncomfortable and something you have to endure lol. That's interesting though about the Salvia report. Did the coke can trip last a week, or did it feel like a week? It's strange how different substances affect the mind and body in different ways, but each one has its own character. It makes you wonder why they all exist. Edit: silly language The trees spoke to me through the wind. The more I listened, the more they spoke.

The statement, "Illusion of Pain" means, in my book, a real physical pain caused by an unreal source. So yes, the illusion of pain is very possible. Do not listen to anything, "Steely" says.
