If it passes, it makes the internet provider responsible for all internet piracy caused by it's users, and allows for legal monitoring of all data. If you are accused of Piracy three times, your internet is turned off for good. Flick of a switch; gone. You don't get a trail or a judge to state your case to prove you weren't doing otherwise.

so basically, if that law passes, it's the end of the world as we know it.

Look at this a different way and this could be considered good news.
Conditions will always get worse before they get better when those in power are threatened.
The more desperate these laws get, the greater chance more people will wake up to the abrsurdity of the situation.

Full steam ahead for illogicality and destruction is inevitable.

I have a buddy who's internet what cut off for 3months cuz his ISP said his ip address was downloading questionable content. He was downloading movies illegally. He finally convinced them it was his wireless router being unsecured and they reactivated his account. This was in las vegas, nevada usa

I also know someone who claimed it was due to an unprotected network and he got away with it. Time warner, other than being a horriblie ISP, has recently improved in my eyes by downright refusing to let out any information on any users.

Not the USA, the people have no voice left. Left or Right, Dem or Repub, the lawmakers, the movers and shakers, all end up f'ing the public on a daily basis.

No, people won't start complaining until it is way too late.

Think of Bush, the US people, despite my best efforts, elected this baboon TWICE! Even after we learned he probably has water brain from too much drinking and was a failure at everything.

Unless the current situation changes, the RIAA and other corporation will continue to hold power. There is no chance of them backing down, so for progress to be made, they will have to fail. Fighting them on their own terms is a slow losing battle. I agree, it would be horrible if this passes. I only hope they continue to propose such ridiculous guidlines.

And just because failures have happened in the past does not mean failing is all that will ever occur. Pessimism surely isn't the answer. Have some hope. I would like to think good things are to come.

The problem with the internet, as far as i can see, is that there's no good system to pay for any content you want to watch or listen to.
There are ways to pay for content, but they're all way too complicated and probably too expensive.

I can see how free information is a serious problem. Offering good quality content, whether it's art, science or journalism, is expensive.

Who want's their shitty movies and pop records anyway. Fuck em. Plastic people.

In truth tho... what will this mean for people that make mixes and upload them. Free mix tapes advertised as such, downloading pdf's of information.
journals... how on earth will they enforce this without stepping on peoples toe's.

There on about border searches of laptops and ipods, on the spot fines and destroying devices, and yet it also states that it has been designed not to affect the consumer. There is a distinct confusion between what a consumer is here.
Glad to the the European customs folk have flat out stated they will not be searching ipods and laptops, because they have enough trouble with drugs and people trafficking.

I am sorry, but this is pure ludicrous. No government has the amount of time or resources needed to enforce such a law. I am not sure I know of many people these days who gets all of their music legitimately. As sad as it is, piracy is here to stay and I don't think will ever be outlawed.

I think that governments do not understand how much power people on the internet have and how difficuilt it is to enforce the law on the internet.

Correction, no one government has the amount of time or resources...

This isn't just one government, this is an act to bring all governments, European and American, together to fight as one against the people.

Although, "The European Parliament passed an anti-ACTA resolution" Obama is still all for it.

If on the slim chance it does pass, it will be challenged in the courts and it will lose based on our constitution.
