so here´s what I was wondering yesterday..

if there was remains of NaOH in the spice, and it was smoked, what would be the result?

What are the combustion by-products that would most likely form with NaOH burning? How dangerous is it?

SWIM always washes and recrystallizes his smoke but was wondering about people who dont, how much at risk they are putting themselves, and also if there are ways to help it (for example maybe the vaporized NaOH would be in a form that would be absorbed/cleaned with a water bong)

NaOH is a very simple molecule. Na and OH thats it. Na if it burned would not turn into anything else and sodium ions are all over your body so it would not cause any harm. -OH with a negative charge if inhaled would cause nothing but minor irritation in small doses. In excessive doses can kill or damage your lungs. But this amount of NaOH is not going to be in spice no matter how bad someone fucks up their extraction. it would have to be so much that if you touched your spice your skin would immediately start being burned by the high base in your crystal mixture. in other words if you can touch your spice and your skin doesn't fall off or meltdown your fine.

and yes NaOH is very very soluble in water so it would be smoothed out by water filtration.

plus, NaOH has a boiling temperature of 1390°C, making it fairly impossible to vaporise with your normal lighter!
SWIM never worried aboot NaOH impurities!

So there's no real reason to do a wash it seems. Maybe to remove the plant oils.

Yeah that's the only real reason, if you want it super pure. swim never does anything beyond freeze precip since it's largely unnecessary and more of a loss than anything.

And don't forget, those plant oils make you trip too!

Well, maybe in a fresh unclean product there are left some traces of NaOH that might enter the lungs, carried away by the boiling DMT. The boiling point of NaOH lies very high compared to DMT but that doesn´t automatically mean your lungs are safe. You´re not inhaling pure vapor but a mist of tiny droplets in a vortex of air, things can get carried along. I know someone who inhaled a fresh product that turned out to be extremely caustic, pure poison! The same batch was very smooth a few hours later.
Just to be sure, leave the fresh product in the open air for a few hours before use, to allow any NaOH traces to be converted to carbonate by CO2 in the air. A quick wash of the snow globes with cold clean ammonia doesn´t hurt, no significant losses observed by this someone.

Also, now that I´m thinking of it, regularly test your naphta for evaporation remains even if you´re only freeze/precipitating. Absolutely avoid poisonous heavy rubbish in OTC solvents.

NaOH is completely insoluble in Shellite
I've tested this and no matter how hot the shellite is it still won't dissolve any NaOH.
The pH doesn't vary even a fraction of a point (to two places)

The only way I could see someone ending up with NaOH in their final product is if they separate poorly and evaporate their shellite along with some base water. Although, it is likely their DMT will vaporise away before the water does
