So it's that time of year again where I dread going outside in the nice sunshine because I get attacked by pollen and it makes even breathing a complete misery, let alone trying to do anything else.

OTC anti-histamines are touch and go....some years those containing citerizine would do the job, but then other years they will have no effect at all, so then tablets containing Loratidine will do it, but still some years nothing seems to help me.

Just wondered if anyone on the nexus has had any experience using something perhaps a tad more natural, as I'd donate more attention to the members here rather than reading through thousands of web pages made by people trying to con me out of money.

So yeah, any advice would be greatly appreciated Very happy

Thanks,

Methtical

Methtical!

Sorry to hear about your hayfever hassles.I cannot give you any useful advice regarding more natural treatments for your hayfever but in my experience the number of sufferers who get good symptom control with just an antihistamine are a minority.

May I ask:

1.What symptoms do you have ie nasal/ocular or both?

2.Do you have eczema or asthma as well?

3.Do you get any associated skin rashes?

4.Have you tried any other meds for it?

5.Are your symptoms strictly seasonal or do you have milder symptoms all year round?

Answer these my friend and Im sure to have some suggestions for you-conventional suggestions that is!
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

1.What symptoms do you have ie nasal/ocular or both?

You name it bro, sneezing, the insane nasal itching and running nose, the insane itching in the back of my throat. The tabs seem to keep the eye itching under control, thank god and general drowsiness.

2.Do you have eczema or asthma as well?

Used to suffer from eczema as a kid. Now it only flares up when the seasons change from hot to cold and vice versa.

3.Do you get any associated skin rashes?

If I lay on the grass for too long I'll get an itchy rash. I used to hate it when they cut the field grass at school, because inevitably the kids would have grass fights, which would often end up with someone stuffing a fistful down the back of my shirt Smile

4.Have you tried any other meds for it?

Aside from antihistamines you mean? Not really, I recall some homeopathic crap I tried when I was younger and less wise, which naturally did absolutely nothing. I also tried this device from the chemist, basically a prong you stick up your schnozz, press a button and it uses infra-red or something to alleviate the symptoms. I wasn't sure whether it had much effect as my brothers 11 month old boxer puppy thought it was a great chew toy Smile

5.Are your symptoms strictly seasonal or do you have milder symptoms all year round?

Only at this time of year, the rest of the time I'm just dandy.

Thanks, I'll give anything at least a try to end the misery.

I've heard the local honey theory before - but what's local? Local to where I live? Where I work? There's a good 10 mile radius of places I might be at any time of the day - how does one determine what local is??

As previously suggested local honey ( a good 10 mile radius ), although you might need a few different jars if you live and work far apart. Another remedy is drinking a tea made from stinging nettles - there are some anti histamines in there somewhere and could help.

Thanks for giving me your history.

I dunno which country you are in but you have a fair few treatment options so dont give up!

I would suggest a trial of an intra-nasal steroid spray for your nasal symptoms- here in the UK, MOMETASONE or FLUTICASONE are pretty good.

As regards your eyes, mast cell stabilisers in the form of eyedrops may be worth trying-a good first option would be SODIUM CROMOGLICATE.

Lastly, if you are prone to rashes it is worthwhile continuing an oral antihistamine-I personally rate FEXOFENADINE at a dose of 120-180mg/day.

If these suggestions dont work, dont lose heart.Theres about 12 different antihistamines, 8ish nasal steroid sprays and about 6-7 different eyedrops out there and it is a case of trial and error.

Lastly, if all the different options dont give you the relief you seek, a last resort which is very effective is an intramuscular injection of a corticosteroid called KENALOG-this is very effective but is not a first-line treatment.
