Ok I started another extraction.

This time I used 150 g of mimosa/lye (though the actual weights were 158 grams of lye and 146 grams of mimosa).

Last time I used 250/250 and used an hdpe2 jug that was used for holding windshield wiper fluid.

I did the lye water and added the mimosa bark to the jug. I added the lye water and immediately added more distilled water to get the water level to reach the top of the sticker on the jug (to allow room for naphtha later).

I spun it, rolled it, and inverted it so it was the same consistency now it's in my closet.

Tomorrow around this time (though it might end up being 5 hours earlier than this time) I'm going to add 300 ml of naphtha.

I have a plastic graduated cylinder, though, and I don't think it's hdpe2. I used it in my last extraction, and I looked inside of it and noticed there is no plastic erosion like I expected from using naphtha in it (I used a plastic pipette with naphtha before but it destroyed the inside of it and ended up making it crack).

This ok to use?

I will mix it every time I see the layers of water/naphtha separate. Probably around 30 times the first day if need be.

I did 3 300 ml pulls on the last one and evaporated all of it and got exactly 1% and then there was almost no DMT left to be extracted. I did another 200 ml pull and only got 30 mg of DMT so I knwo I got all the goodies out.



Once I do 3 pulls on this, over a week (I'll allow 3 days for the naphtha to mix with the bark/lye/water and then take it out and store it in my mason jar) and then do a sodium carbonate wash with a pinch of naco3 and 3 additions of 50-75 ml of distilled water and then evaporate all the naphtha down to 50-100 mL and then put it in the freezer once it turns to "goo," though the last time I tried this it never turned to goo and I just ended up evaporating it totally without using the freeze step.

The only thing that I can see being a problem is the amount of water. I'm using the same amount I used last time, though this time its 100 grams less of lye and mimosa.

SWIM personally would do more, smaller pulls and freeze precipitate. She likes reusing her solvent. Also the first couple of pulls, she just leaves in for an hour or so, mixing when necessary.

I agree - smaller pulls and more of them. 300ml naptha is a bit of overkill, 100ml pulls are quite sufficient and as Ragabr says freeze precip and reuse the naptha.

As for the amount of water, a rule of thumb is to use 15ml for each gram of MHRB.

Oh and try using HDPE milk jugs instead of wiper fluid bottles - never know what shits still hanging around in there.

I wonder what will yield the best crystals?

Freezing or evaporating?

Now I'm kind of impatient, so I'll probably just evaporate it all rather than wait a week with the naphtha dish in the freezer (I live at home with parents, but I've evaporated in the house before).

you dont have to wait a week for freezing, 12-24 hours is more than enough with cold freezer.

remember to have the naphtha saturated with dmt before sticking in the freezer


and dont use that plastic cylinder, just because you dont see anything doesnt mean the plastic isnt leeching to your solvent. Only use glass or hdpe

Now let's say I do freeze-precipitate... one problem I've had before is that when I take it out and pour out the naphtha, there is still enough of the solvent on the pyrex dish to redissolve the crystals into the naphtha.
This is why I've loved the evaporation technique.

If I do freeze though, would I have enough time to take the dish out of the freezer, do a quick scrape of the crystals (with some solvent still on it, since I'll have to move very fast) and then pour it through a coffee filter?

When I tried this method before, I ended up with a nice white powder (not crystalline though, which differed from my yield with evaporation).

it works sometimes but sometimes it also happens that crystals start melting and melt into the coffee filter, so you have to redissolve in warm naphtha and freeze again. The link I posted above has a tip exactly to prevent melting crystals

Alright I thank you kind sir.

I read that post in specific.

So once I take the dish out of the freezer and pour all the naphtha I can out, I turn it upside down and let a fan blow the remaining solvent residue away from the crystals so you have a cleaner product?

I heard a variation of this that utilizes a freezer.

You pour all the naphtha you can out and there will be a few "drops" worth on the glass dish. You take the dish and put it upside down in a freezer, and the naphtha should, since it doesn't have a freezing temp that the freezer will achieve, go down the sides and leave you with a purer product than if you were to just fan it out.

Just what I heard though.

Another quick question.

Can I start siphoning off the naphtha now?

Put 250 ml of naphtha on Saturday and been shaking it as SOON as I see two separate layers. Added another 75 ml (for fun) on MOnday. It's now Tuesday.

I mixed it around at like 12 and there's 2 layers again.


EDIT: I removed as much naphtha as was possible, and ended up with about 250 ml of dmt-enriched naphtha.

If I wanted to freeze precip, all I have is a pyrex baking dish, and it is without a lid.

I'm gonna evap down to a small amount and then place in freezer.

The one thing I'm worried about is will my freezer smell with this in it without a cover? Last time I tried to implement seran wrap on top of it and put it in my freezer, but this just added water to the naphtha and I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be done.
