Hello, SWIM followed this cactus tek (resin update, by ۩)

and obtained a small jar of tar from 200 g of dried Peruvianus chips.
However, in order to evaporate the tea and scrape up the gooey tar,
SWIM apparently used an aluminium baking tray (the ones for cakes).

I've read glass is always best, and when I told her she wondered:
IS she safe in using the fruits of this extraction?

At the bottom of the tea there are some white granules that won't dissolve
in water. Sand? Unsoluble freebase goodies?
SWIM says they taste slightly salty and gritty,
so it doesn't sound like it's some useful alcaloid.

As a rule you should never use Aluminium in any stage of your extraction or consumption. Aluminium is reactionary (it has a chemical reaction with NaOH, HCL etc). It is also a soft metal so scraping it could result in aluminium scrapings in your product.

You should only ever use glass or stainless steel.

I can't comment on your current dilemma though, hopefully someone else will come along and help you out there.

SWIM used the aluminium tray to bake the liquid at 120-160 F (50-70 C) and scraped stuff out of it.
She says she'll be sure to use only glass in the future, but throwing away 200 g of fine Peruvianus looks like a real waste.
That tray is sold for baking cakes, and the only solvents used in the extraction are demineralized water and lemon juice. Will Aluminium actually react with them?
Admitting a few aluminium scrapings made their way into the final product, would it be OK for SWIM and her friends to use anyway?

SWIM hopes some knowledgeable Nexus chemist clears the matter up.

It is up to SWIY, as long as he understands the risks involved with aluminium ingestion; Just read the wikipedia article on health concerns of aluminium for a rough first guide.


But other than that, SWIY's product may contain aluminium or aluminium-related contaminations. The safest route is to do A/B on the resin; dissolve in water, base, and pull with limonene or xylene, then salt.

Since it's a _baking_ tray (meant for food production at high temperatures anyway), since it's only for the once, and since the risks as explained on Wikipedia seem not to be terribly high, SWIM will probably consider using the stuff. Unless more voices in this respected forum strongly recommend not to, that is.

Allright, SWIM managed to get all of it in a small jar without any more scraping (she diluted the stuff with lukewarm water). The last boil was processed in a pyrex glass tray, BTW.

Unfortunately the obtained resin still contains quite a bit of humidity, and SWIM doubts she can put it in capsules - she's afrraid they'll melt.

Do you have any advice for a reasonable course of action? Dosing is tricky in this form.
