my mom has been an alcoholic and very keen on tranquilizers (Xanax) for the last ten years. she's not permanently waisted but it's always up and down basicaly.
i won't go through all the details, but mainly a fucked up family situation (my dad works 6 weeks in Africa, and is 6 weeks at home in Belgium). The typical "housewife left alone" situation...
i've come to a point where i have just given up, trying not to get emotionaly involved (living in Germany with my own family helps)..but each time when i visit her it just makes me sad, and i feel helpless.
She's gone through shrinks, rehab, medication,et... without success. She lives in her own world of lies.

Lately i've been considering a healing ceremony as a possible option for her to gain insight. But i do not know if it is the right thing to do for a person with such a background?
Is self administration of lets say a good dose of mushrooms an option, or just irresponsible? or should it be done in a more professional context like santo daime?

These are just ideas, and i have not spoken to my mom about it. She had her share of drug experience in the seventies, but i don't know if she ever tripped...

I know there you are all a bunch of smart people and i'm sure to get some good opinions about this issue Smile

Thanks

well i'm not familiar with iboga, but i've read some negative reports about it...
after thinking about it, i'm not realy sure if a healing ceremony is the right thing for people with major psychological problems..but i've come to a point where i think that only something soul shaking can heal her, would be nice tough to hear some more feedback...

I would guess it's far safer to go professional with people who are new to psychedelic shamanism if you feel that route needs to be taken. A well-run ayawaska ceremony by a respected shaman, perhaps.

Santo Daime are not 'professionals', they're more devotees, aren't they? But if she's mildly Christian, maybe she'd respond better to that setting. As long as she's not TOO Christian, in which case she may freak out at "the devil's work" (magic is forbidden in the Bible).

I am personally sceptical that mushrooms or salvia would help. Neither ever made the dreamer want to give up the booze. Ayawaska and DMT, however, seem to have eliminated his desire to get wasted in any way.

If you want to go the route of iboga, maybe those ibogaine addiction clinics one hears of run in Canada? Personally I would be wary of iboga in anything other than a clinical setting, because it can be dangerous. But if she is mega-Christian, or for any other reason would be freaked out by shamens or psychedelic Christians drinking magical brews, maybe such a clinical setting would feel right for her.

I'd recommend a psychologist and speaking to her doctor first but you say she's done all that and it's proved unsuccessful. Good luck on whatever path you feel is right for you and your mother, and best wishes for you both Smile

Honestly the medicine is not going to do it for her... she has to will it to happen, after that the medicine might be able to help...

Thanks for the feedback guys...it's true that if the will is not there, no magic in the world can help. But in my moms case i think it's the fucked up perspective of her own actions that block every healing option possible. When someone's lying to herself in such a degree, that she actually believes her own lies...she needs some sort of revelation of her true nature to realize: this can't go on like this! is this what i've become? Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious to some people.

So what does she think of it?

Only your mother can truly make herself heal - she has to want to do it for herself and not for anyone else. Until then you are going to struggle to get her well.

OK. So who put a stop payment on my reality check?

wonderful advice from oyahoco. i would say that you should first start by dosing her with mescaline amidst nature, just so that she can open up towards the idea and potential of psychedelics. this would also result in a few realizations that will show her the illusive world that she's stuck in. Once she has opened up enough, then you can proceed on with perhaps mushrooms, to open her up some more, and more epiphanies with shrooms will greatly help her. after that you should either take her to an ayahuasca ceremony in a shamanic setting; or an iboga treatment at a professional clinic. Perhaps both. i think incremental steps would result in more profound success. hope your mom feels better and sees the truth.
perhaps, dosing your dad would be a good idea too, since he's always away and your mom probably misses him. if he can take certain initials towards their relationship, that will help greatly as well; and the sacred plant journey will also result in your dad's well-being, which the whole Earth is in need of. hope this helps teotenakeltje. entheogens are the best option available in this scenario. let us know the results of the entheogenic treatment
