Are people seriously suggesting that the 'entities' experienced while using DMT should affect our assumptions of how any extraterrestrial beings in our universe might act?

I don't need to prove myself to anyone here about what I've experienced, because I know. And the proof is in the pudding. If you haven't had direct contact, you haven't smoked enough. Yes, our universe is that weird.

Yes, our universe is that weird. Even ifyou grant that Hyperspace is a real, persistent dimension, I think it's incredibly problematic to think that extraterrestrial life in the universe will mimic beings encountered in Hyperspace. Not knowing anything about alien physiology, psychology, culture, or technology, it seems prudent to imagine that they might act like us. And as a species we have a very poor track record of spreading peace and prosperity when encountering new cultures. Respect.

Who said anything about mimic? What about project? Or construct AI? The ones I have encountered act nothing like us...

We shouldn't worry too much about aliens. They're no threat to us.
I think travelling with speeds close to the speed of light is just such an impossible thing to do that even the most advanced civilizations won't be able to do it.
So that leaves open only some kind of 'interdimensional' traveling as an option. If other dimensions are realistic, then we can safely assume that our dimension will be as weird to them as their dimension would be to us.

Hawking’s statements about alien contact say a lot more about Stephen Hawking than they do about aliens. My impression of most DMT entities is that they exist in an “immaterial realm” – a place that is not “physical”, at least not in a way that we can understand. And my personal experiences suggest that they are already “here”. gibran2 is a fictional character. Any resemblance to anyone living or dead is purely coincidental.

Hawking's position is entirely understandable.
IF Aliens exist (which they almost certainly do) AND Their technology is better than ours (which is almost certainly is) AND They do not have our best interests in mind
THEN We should avoid first contact.
Not having any information on alien behavior, it seems irresponsible to open ourselves up to a situation in which we would have no say whatsoever. We could get lucky and stumble on a race of artistic space-philosophers, but that requires aliens to behave in a way that is different than we have observed sentient beings to behave.

then I hardly think it matters ... we're fucked. To use hawking's Columbus metaphor - Columbus (and other Europeans) went over to the America's because they wanted to, and wanted to make their fortunes, and conquer new territory... not because they were invited or contacted by the locals. So as for 'drawing attention to ourselves' if the aliens in question want what we have, and do not have our best interests at heart, I don't think there's a lot we can do about it. I see what you mean, but I think Hawking is talking about sending out probes broadcasting our location to anyone within range.

Wasn't it Viking or something, back in the 70's where we sent them a detailed outline of our DNA in a tin can? That seems a little optimistic now, but I don't suppose there's anyway of getting the tincan back at this stage. I think there was a message on a 78' speed gold plated record as well... In which case, what you say makes sense to me. Sounds simple enough, but it had never quite occurred to me in those terms before. Thank you! What if its just not like that at all? For example, the highly evolved species we could be contacted by is actually allready US but merely at a higher level than we are presently? Then, of course they'd be interested in us. Imagine a civilization floating in a future time, or out of phase with current reality but overlapping and simultaneous, at a higher frequency if you will. It could be like that... shoe

First question I would ask is if there are other species then there is probably more than one out there. What makes anyone think the human race is significant enough to warrant contact. Secondly they could easily study us and attain any info they wanted without us knowing being that we are a chaotic violent species I would assume if they were smart enough to get here they would be smart enough to know to stay out of our sight. Third if aliens were to come here and they had no concept of emotions then to see how we act they would have to assume we are defective. This world seems absolutely insane to a logical mind if you take a step back and think about it. We have been waging wars for millennia over our perception of what one can only logically assume is an imaginary creature. We have the technological ability to cure virtually every disease and eliminate poverty but instead we spend billions on more weapons to destroy or million dollar cars which are in no way more functional than a 30,000 car. Have you any idea how much money nations spend on military. The US will spend in excess of 660 billion dollars on the military and 68 billion on education. That means it takes one tenth the money the us spends on military to put every kid through school and offer federal aid to millions of student. You could triple the money on education and have a ton left over to fund medical research and other technological advancements. If you don't sin, Jesus died for nothing.

vovin wrote:...What makes anyone think the human race is significant enough to warrant contact. Agreed. The whole premise is so anthropocentric it’s ridiculous. Out of the 10^20 planets with intelligent life (a completely made-up number), why would a highly intelligent species find us interesting? I remember the scene from “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy” where the Vogons (was it Vogons?) destroy the Earth to make room for an inter-galactic highway or something. The scene showed how insignificant we are: a bunch of satellites were placed all around the Earth and then detonated. The Earth was gone, just like that. If technologically superior beings decide to enslave us, or destroy the Earth, or take our resources, or make the Earth their new home, there’s nothing we can do. And whether we seek aliens or not makes no difference – they don’t need us to find us. (What a crazy thread! ) gibran2 is a fictional character. Any resemblance to anyone living or dead is purely coincidental.

In which case, what you say makes sense to me. Sounds simple enough, but it had never quite occurred to me in those terms before. Thank you! This too, but not only. Raw natural resources of all kinds are abundant in the cosmos. The only thing special about Earth is their particular combination, which has led to the development of life. And if natural resources were all an invader would be interested in, Africans would have fared way better. They would have needed only to hand over their ivory and precious stones and they could have went on in peace. Even if territory was a target, they could have been left in enclaves or reservations undisturbed. But they were also used as slaves. And also sex slaves, guinea pigs, torture toys and some other uses. Even if natural resources were an invader's main focus, they usually find utility for the locals too. On the plus side, if we get shipped to the alien cotton plantations, with a bit of luck in a few centuries we might get to sling spice on their street corners, make millions rapping about it and bust a cap in their bitch ass (that is, assuming they have asses).
