i have an english bull dog who is the very definition of mischevious and i always lock her out when i'm doing experiments but who knows how, she got out and started tearing around the house full-blast, hit the table and knocked my sep funnel off and it broke:Sad so they say nesistiy is the mother of all invention---i took the flask and carefully poured the ether into a ceramic bowl being careful not to pour out too much syrup but inevitably a few drops came too...easily fixed by transfering it to a twin of the bowl...the syrup sticks to the ceramic bowl and the ether pours off clean...in my opinion much easier than a sep funnel as there is no limited space...no clogging, no spills bc you forgot to shut the valve and quicker in general...hope this works for somebody else

Separatory funnels are the easiest...when you already have one or have money to blow on luxury. If not, a glass gravy separator and disposable pippette combo can work just as well.

I just get a plastic jug a poke a hole in the bottom. Let it separate in another container, carefully pour the whole mess in the jug with your finger on the hole and let it go shortly after.

I agree greymatter, very quick and clean, if you use clear glass it works even better, you can see the crap sticking to the bottom and there is no mess or clogging!Smile

if there were such thing as a competion, i'd bet in a heartbeat that i could decant it faster and cleaner than anyone using a sep funnel....as the tube in the sep funnel gets coated in the syrup and you have to clean it out before draining the solvent and even then a drop or two gets caught in the valve and end up in the final product if you don't do exactly what i described...and even keeping it down to minimal liquids w the cake method...the standard 250 or even 500ml sep funnel still isn't big enough to do it in one wack
