I have maintained since day one that I
LOATHE the term n00b as everyone is a noob at some point, after all every journey must start with a first step. To give people flack over being new to something is a concept i have never understood and will never take lightly. We give each other enough shit over slightly more meaningful issues, why would we dump additional, unneeded aggravation on those who arguably need it the least? Where is the logic in that?
As to finger waving or ownership of the chat, clearly no one owns it (with the possible exception of Trav, but that raises questions of ownership of a community within a communal context and feel that the communal "WE" own it just as much, but that's a side issue). As far as finger wagging, I wag my finger on the forum the same way I do in the chat. If you're doing something stupid in either place, I share my mind with you. If you are extracting in a place that is not your property and do not have the permission of whoever's place of residence it is, if you are taking entheogens recklessly, if you are advising other members of poor lab technique (using bad solvents, using solvents+fire, not using gloves or other safety equipment, etc), if you are advising others in health matters or extraction techniques that are obviously out of your depth, I will call you out. Feel free to do the same to me. This is not about me being better than anyone or vice versa, this is in order to keep an exhange of appropriate, valid, and safe information. If you tell someone that boiling solvents on a stove is safe or that eating fistfuls of datura is cool, expect to be chastised.
Beyond things of an objectively stupid/bad/wrong nature, there is no reason anyone should be assuming any sort of position of power within the chat as that's not what the chat is about. If you are interested in forming social hierarchies I believe games such as second life and the sims or applications such as facebook may be more up your alley than the nexus chat, or even forums for that matter. Over the past couple weeks, there has been an explosion of trolls as well as inexperienced and new members in the chat. I welcome you all (trolls excluded) and although it has made the chat much more chaotic and occasionally wearing on the nerves, it is for the benefit of the community that the chat is there. The chat has been more continuous as of late, in part due to first questions for information, but there have also been some very stimulating discussions between members, new and old alike.
The anonymity of the internet makes it very easy to spit venom in live chat. I'd like to end this post with a quote from the Nexus attitude, for it often seems as though far too few people have familiarized themselves with it...

• Spice journeys can be harrowing. Those undergoing them need SUPPORT from travelers who have gone before them.
If you’ve cruised the forum you have surely seen that the nexus is different from any other forum.
• We respect each other and support each other, because we know that anyone willing to make these journeys automatically deserves respect and support.
• We mostly avoid the petty types of forum fights and cliques seen on many forums because our topic is anything but petty.
• We understand that members have a variety of experiences and opinions because the universe is infinite—and no one can really carve a piece off for himself and declare it the “only truth.”
• Most of us are generous in giving love and support because we know how much love and support we need ourselves.
