I smoked a cigarette once when I was drunk. It was disgusting.

I used to smoke blunts for a while too, until I smartened up and realized how disgusting those were too.

Then I grew my own ricotiana rustica, made my own mapacho, and singados, which I drank up my nose with a sea shell in psychedelic ceremony, and learned the amazing synergistic effects of sacred tobacco.

When I run out of my own homegrown mapacho, I buy some from a wonderful vender through the internet, and only very rarely work with it. Only in ceremony. This happens once every two weeks to a month.

Tobacco is an amazing ally if you learn to work with it properly.

Many consider it to be a "power plant" or amplifier of intentions and consciousness. With this in mind, look at what mainstream cigarette companies have done with that power.

Just sayin',

Grow your own.

Some people are administered toxic amounts daily until their tolerance is so high after a year they can ingest enough for extremely psychedelic effects.
It's a crazy world....

I voted I used to smoke regularly, No more. As I used to smoke while I was in high school and just after, I would smoke 10 give or take a day and only for about 2 years. I was a silly young girl indeed, I learnt the error of my ways and stopped smoking 5 years ago and I have never looked back.

When I stopped I just made the decision to stop, I had cigarettes right in front of me and freely available and I never touched them again and never will as its far more constructive and healthier to roll up your money and smoke it. I only smoke a hubbly every once in a while, its also lovely to smoke hubbly while journeying with Khat.

I used to smoke regularly (approx 15 rollups a day for about 15 years or so). I gave up 7 years ago and have no compulsion to smoke anymore. I used to smoke like demon when tripping, but now it just seems really unpleasant. I do smoke bud neat in a pipe, but this is just to get stoned not for the enjoyment of inhaling the smoke.

Did smoke for a while during teenage years. Then i woke the hell up.
Growing some Nicotina Rustica. Dont think ill be using it much if at all. Maybe but in ceremonial settings only.
I dont ever want to be addicted to smoking... what an terrible thing it is.

SWIM smoked mostly pipe tobacco, occasionally cigarettes, and was pretty hooked. One day he took a massive amount of LSD (a freakout dose) and watched a documentary about lung cancer and tobacco. He had a very intense LSD session that day and for many days he couldn’t get the image out of his mind of a man dying of lung cancer at the hospital and he was still smoking cigarettes. That image from the documentary kept pounding into SWIM’s mind, and it was greatly intensified by the massive amount of LSD used that day (on purpose).

From that day onward, SWIM saw tobacco differently and never smoked tobacco again. He’s been smoke free for over 20 years now.

My thanks go to Albert Hofmann and Timothy Leary. Albert for inventing LSD, and Timothy for showing SWIM how to use LSD to break addictions.

I'm a smoker.. and I hate myself for it. It wasn't even an easy habit for me to pick up, maybe about 6 months of feeling ill after every draw and having a discusting taste in my mouth. Thats 10 years since I started now. I used to be a quality long distance runner as well, he's long gone!

I did manage to stop (cold turkey) for 3 months, even when out having drinks the urge just wasn't there... until one fucked up night that involved a Chinaman, a bag of fake DVD's, a woolen hat, a kebab and half the renfrewshire police force lol. I got arrested for nothing, they got to the bottom of the misunderstanding, I got set free and as a reward for this injustice... I bought a pack of smokes. The rest is history!

I will try again one day when I'm ready though.

My father and all my paternal uncles were/are all lifelong passionate enthusiasts for both the fag and the bottle. This is of course not un-common among Irishmen of their generation, in fact if anything it would have been the norm. Throughout the entire post-war period in Ireland (and indeed in many other countries) if you were a man who didn't smoke and drink as much as you were able you were considered a bit of an odd-ball, and quite possibly "queer". Razz

One uncle has since quit smoking in his mid 50's but not before developing emphysema. Another has landed himself in the nursing home since last October aged just 71. With no particular underling age-related illnesses (baring a mild stroke suffered after a marathon drinking session about 10 years ago), his body so wracked from years of cigarette and alcohol abuse that he can no longer walk, can barely stand unaided and his speech is all but unintelligible to any but his closest relatives.

My father smoked almost constantly and still does including in the car on long journeys but he smoked the pipe which may have spared his lungs him from the worst effects of nicotine smoke. It didn't spare my mothers lungs, mine or my brothers or sisters lungs though.

Two of the 4 of us had childhood asthma. My sister still uses an inhaler. After a recent heart-lung checkup my mother was told by the doctor she needs to quit smoking 30 a day. She is a lifelong non-smoker! Her lungs are blackened by years of living in rooms filled by my fathers pipe-smoke.

The only good side I can see to this rather sad story is that neither I nor my 3 siblings has ever touched a pipe or cigarette, or drinks more than occasionally.

We've all seen first-hand and continue to see, the negative effects of these habits on those afflicted with them and the people around them.

I gave up about 4 months ago with no problems. I now don't smoke cigarettes, but if a friend hands me a joint which has a little tobacco, I'll have a couple of toots.

It's a crazy world....

I'm pretty sure they consider Ayahuasca to be the mother of tobacco.

Quote:
Talking to a Tabaquero Ayahuasquero, Narby understood that for Ashaninka natives, Ayahuasca-induced visions were as real as computer screens for our readers.

Narby carried out a long series of interviews with this man and here is the transcription of one of them:

Carlos, the Tabaquero Ayahuasquero, tells him: "My uncle was a Tabaquero. I used to watch him lay out a lot of tobacco, dry it in the sun and cook it, and I would ask myself what it was all about. 'It's tobacco,' my uncle told me, and once the mixture was black, he would start tasting it with a little stick. I thought it was sweet, like Chancaca (sugarcane concentrate). When he took his tobacco, he would counsel everyone, he could tell them 'this is good' or 'this is not good'. I don't know what intellectuals might say now, but at the time Adventist missionaries used to say: 'He is listening to his bats; his Satan.' He had no book to read from, but what he said was true: 'everybody has left these things, everybody now goes to the missionary's house. I can't read but I know how to do these things, I know how to take tobacco and I know all these things.' Then, when he talked to me, I would listen. He used to tell me: 'Listen, nephew, when you become a man, look for a woman to take care of, but before this happens, you must not only learn to write, but also learn these things.'

- Did he mean, learn to consume tobacco?
- Consume tobacco and heal. When somebody came to look for him, my uncle would say: 'Why do you come asking me to heal you if you say that you know God now that you are in the mission and I don't? Why don't you ask the reverend to pray for you, since he says he can heal an ill person through prayer? Why don't you go with him?' But he would heal them anyhow, pull out his coca and started chewing it, and he would sit like we do now. Then he would suck at his tobacco and during those moments I would watch him and wonder what he would do. The first healing session I saw him in, he said: 'Alright, bring me the sick baby.' He has begun, he has palpated him and felt his pulse: 'Oh, I can see, he is really screwed up. The sickness is here.' Then he has begun to suck in that place (to suck loudly). Then he has spit making a noise: ptt! Then once more, then a third time: ptt! 'Alright, it's enough.' He then tells the mother: 'Something has shocked this baby, here is a Piri piri (a medicinal herb) to bathe him in. Then let him rest.' The next day it could be seen that the baby was better. Then I began to like this and I decided to learn. Uf! The first time I took tobacco I was unable to sleep. - How old were you? - I was eight years old. I thought it was sweet like Chancaca. But it was so bitter I could not even swallow it. My uncle told me: this is the secret of tobacco. Then he taught me everything. He gave me a gourd with tobacco. Little by little I learned to take it and resist it. Very soon, I did not vomit anymore.
- And was it your uncle who also taught you about Ayahuasca? - No, I learned that later, with my father-in-law.

During this search period, Narby experimented on himself the effects of different treatments with medicinal plants practised by the Ashaninkas. Narby understood that practise is more important than words for a native Ashaninka. "They taught by example and not through explanations."

Many times, as Narby tells, it was not easy to explain how they healed.
But they healed:

- When you have healed someone, as you have healed Sabino the other day, how does tobacco work? If you are the one inhaling the smoke, how can tobacco heal the person who is not smoking?
- I always say that it is tobacco's property to show me real things. I can see things the way they really are. And he drives out all pains.
- Oh, but how has that property been discovered? Does tobacco only grow in the jungle?
- There is a place, for example, in Napiari, where tobacco grows abundantly.
- Where?
- On the Perene. We have learned about its power through Ayahuasca, that other plant, since it is the mother.
- Which is the mother, tobacco or Ayahuasca?
- Ayahuasca.
- And tobacco is its son?
- It is its son.
- Because tobacco is not as strong, right?
- It is less strong.
- You have told me that both tobacco and Ayahuasca contain gods.
- That is so.
- And you have told me that souls love tobacco. Why?
- Because tobacco has its method, its strength. It attracts the maninkari. It is the best contact for a human being's life.
- And those souls, what are they like?
- I know that every living or dead soul is like those radio waves flying around in the air.
- Where?
- In the air. This means that you can't see them but they are there, like radio waves. Once you turn on the radio, you can receive them. It is the same with souls, with Ayahuasca and tobacco you can see them and hear them.
- And how is it that when the Ayahuasquero sings we hear music that we had never heard before, such beautiful music?
- Well, that attracts the spirits, and as I have always said, when you think it over… (long silence) It is like a tape recorder. You put it there, you start it, it starts singing: hum, hum, hum, hum, hum. And you begin to sing along it. Once you sing, you get to understand it and you can follow its music because you have heard its voice. So music is born, it comes and you can see it. As it happened the other time when Ruperto was singing.
- Tabaquero and Ayahuasquero, are they the same thing?
- The same.
- Well, and I want to know why we see serpents when we take Ayahuasca.
- It's because Ayahuasca's mother is a serpent. Can't you see they have the same shape?
- But I thought that Ayahuasca was tobacco's mother?
- It is so.
- But then, who is the owner of these plants?
- The owners of these plants are really like gods. They are the Maninkari. It is them who help us. Their existence has no end or disease. That is the reason why they tell the Ayahuasquero to put his head in the very dark house: 'If you want me to help you, do it well, then. I give you this power not just for you but for everyone.' Then, clearly, there it is, the force to decide if you want more life by believing in the plant. It is the way. For that reason they say there is a very narrow road that no one can pass, not even with a machete. It is not a straight path, but at least it is a road. I abide by these words, and also where it says that truth is not for sale, that wisdom is for you but it should be shared. In other words, this means that to make money out of this is wrong.

That could very well be the case.

Coming up on 5 years since I quit suddenly after 16 years of smoking. Ayahuasca played a role in helping swim to quit. It was soon after drinking aya that I just said, to hell with cigs, no more of this shit. I was considering quitting for a long time because I was so damn disgusted with myself. I was a fairly heavy smoker, never going more than 20 minutes without a cig hanging off my lips. The cigs are long gone now, and I am verrrryy happy with my decision.

Several weeks after quitting, an amazing thing happened. My sense of smell returned. I could actually smell things again and it never occurred to me that I had lost my sense of smell to begin with (due to going away gradually). Not only that, but food tasted so much better. It was like discovering different foods as a toddler all over again. Today I become nauseated by a transient wisp of second hand smoke from a passing smoker on the street. My senses are back, my lung capacity has increased and I love myself for it.

For me it was THH + DMT that influenced the quitting... as in it happened instantly afterwards, but on the back end of a period where I wasn't enjoying my smokes as much as I used to.

i smoked alot regularly for a few years - perhaps 4 or 5 years, then joined the nexus - extracted spice - vaped it - and now i no longer smoke ciggs - smoking ciggs was an extremely bad decision.

Thank you The Nexus and specifically Antrocles and Aegle - without your guys support i would never have quit.
