Magnetic stirrers have changed SWIM's life. Coupled with heating her naptha, yields have shot straight up for the variation of Norman's tek she uses. She uses a separatory funnel to keep all lye/mimosa mixture out of her naptha. She also always cleans with Sodium Carbonate. This last freeze precip. brought a much more yellow and powdery product. SWIM feels almost certain it's okay, just hope for some reassurance...

No probs but if you have any worries you could always re-crystallise and you would have cleaner spice

Ive never had a prob w spice that looks like that..in fact about half of my friends stuff ends up looking like that.. just some oils and stuff, nothing bad.

So, how much would you say your yields have increased? How long do you stir each pull and at what temperature do you set the hotplate?

SWIM's yields increased from an average of ~0.7g per 100g MHRB to about 1.1g using variation of Vovin's tek. She got some very old stir plates from a garage sell, so they do not have hot plates.

And are you swirling by hand at all, or is all mixing done with the stirrer? How long for each pull?
